Weekend on the spreadsheet February 20, 2010 4:56 AM   Subscribe

There's a pretty active AskMe thread of movie recommendations going on right now, I threw all the recommended titles into a spreadsheet people can download along with plot, director, etc. Right now it's about 200 titles, I'll update it in a few days with whatever else gets added. Hope someone finds it useful.

Wow, lot of movies I haven't seen here. I'm not sure the Lynch or del Toro films belong, based on the premise of the question, but they are a good watch.

Personally advocating Teeth. That movie is a masterpiece.

Brilliant! My lovefilm list (British netflix) is going to get nicely padded out, thanks stupidsexyFlanders.

Thanks, stupidsexyFlanders! I've added NetFlix links to a copy of the spreadsheet for easy adding to my NetFlix queue. Please feel free to add my formula back to your spreadsheet. I am probably not going to update the copy.

Yay, I tossed this on the sidebar.

Okay, I rearranged it so the title's in the first column, Netflix & IMDB links were in the last columns, & there are headers now.

There were headers before—they are alphabetically sorted under T for TITLE. Heh.
posted by grouse at 11:57 AM on February 20, 2010

Updated:
* removed the extra title row.
* made it so the header stays both visible if you scroll down, & at the top, if you sort.
* heartily HELL YEAH!

That is the awesomeness. Thank you.

Well, that is fucking awesomeness in spreadsheet form.

Now I'll have to go and get one of those Netflix things, just so I can put all these things on a queue.

OK, when I update it I'm going to d/l and update pronoiac's version and I'll put that under my original linky, with permissions to pronoiac for purposes of updating the netflix links.

smell ya later, I got a lot of movies to watch.

That's great! and completely appreciated. :)

I wanted to watch a movie right now, so here's a copy of grouse's Netflix-linked spreadsheet sorted by Netflix instant play availability.

I just got back from a bike ride to the beach. I'll look at updating the spreadsheet.

There are more films to add, but I need to step out & think about it. Google Docs isn't cooperating.

I did a call for recommendations for a niche book thing last week and I gotta say MeFi is rocking the RecommendationFilter recently.
posted by cowbellemoo at 11:56 PM on February 20, 2010

MeFi is good for recommendations. I saw some of my favorite documentaries based on recommendations in this thread.

Just updated the spreadsheet as of all films mentioned up to this point. 389 films. Pronoiac, feel free to do your netflix magic.

You are amazing. Thank you so much!

I sorted by movie title, & added missing Netflix links.

Hey qxntpqbbbqxl, how did you get Netflix instant play availability?

Oilman Jan is paralyzed in an accident. His wife, who prayed for his return, feels guilty

This is great list, but man, that is just not enough information to adequately warn a potential viewer about Breaking the Waves.

Thanks! That was an awesome idea. I have a suggestion though: make a "WatchMe" page at the wiki and link or embed or something the spreadsheet there. If you wanted (or someone else wanted) to you could also find the other good documentary, good movies, etc threads and add them. <3
