The Dream of Perpetual Motion by Dexter Palmer March 2, 2010 8:43 AM Subscribe
Congratulations to MeFi’s own Prospero, also known as Dexter Palmer, whose first novel The Dream of Perpetual Motion was released today! (Bookforum review; registration may be required).
Thanks! It's a big day for me today--I worked on this for quite a while, and it's nice to see it in print finally.

It's pretty damn hard to beat a recommendation like this:
“Like the majority of contemporary novelists, I have often fantasized about Jules Verne, Nathanael West, and Thomas Pynchon meeting up in some netherworld saloon and, upon discovering they have absolutely nothing in common save a mutual affection for The Tempest, agreeing to reify their enthusiasm via a three-way collaboration filled with zeppelins, androids, monsters, virtual islands, linguistic felicity, and state-of-the-art weirdness. And now I must thank Dexter Palmer for making my dream come true.”
-James Morrow, author of The Last Witchfinder and The Philosopher's Apprentice
I'm sold.

Added to my Wish List for my birthday next month. Impressive--steampunk is such a fascinating genre, and I think one of the most difficult to write well. Sounds like you perfected it right out of the gate.

OHenryPacey: From my perspective, a sale is a sale, no matter the medium. So no, I don't mind at all.
And to everyone else--it's nice to see such support from the MeFi community. Very, very cool.
