Change Username Please March 1, 2002 5:30 PM Subscribe
I wouldn't be able to get my username changed from 'ewwgene' to 'eww, gene!', would i? When i signed up, i didn't realize that one could use commas and exclamation points when i signed up.
If this will 'open the floodgates' so to speak, dont bother. :)

i didn't realize that the whole punctuation thing was cool either. otherwise i would have opted for the more correct EyeballK!d

Perhaps username changes (which I think are a bad idea, in general - we know one another by our usernames here, chosen badly or well) could attract a fee of some sort?
d_r : maybe dong_key kong?

I'd really love a space between Miguel and Cardoso as, when I signed up, I thought it was forbidden.

Perhaps for a marginal fee we could change our usernames? That would prevent massive and frivolous requests, and be a nice occasional source of income.

We should all chip in to finance insomnyuk and dong_resin keeping their original usernames. Stavrosthewonderchicken and five fresh fish, for the typing alone, I would be willing to let go. For a price, of course. ;)

I want to change my name to: C_h_a_z*, and then have the * be hyperlinked to a popunder, which would contain a little biographical sketch about me, as well as a picture and a link to my website, as well as a flash movie about my life and philisophy.
Or else I want to change it to: >>get a fucking life! :-)<< ::

I think that if we pay, we should be able to rearrange other people's nicknames.

perhaps the best way to avoid 'opening the floodgates' would be to have emailed matt about this, so that the idea didn't catch on :P
i imagine there would be much confusion if a name edit was any more drastic than adding a space or similar

chaz, I think that yours is an entirely reasonable request. You may want to add a theme song as well. My main reason for wanting to change is because I want to be slightly more anonymous. Google has a habit of surfing through here and I would prefer it if future employers et al didn't have such an easy opportunity of establishing that I am a prat. Now you could say that I should have thought of that when signing up, which would be fair enough, however I signed up after being told that a comment had been made about me here, and used my full name to make it obvious that it was me that was responding. I never intended to hang around, and at the time didn't know much about this place.

OK RobertLoch, tell us what you had in mind and we'll help you out. You say you want to be only slightly more anonymous. So are we talking RichardLoch, LochLomond or YaleLock here? ;)

MC boblo was what I had in mind. Perhaps more than slightly anonymous, I know, but I just have this fear that something I say online will one day come back and haunt me. I simply don't trust myself, and to be honest I already have enough skeletons in my offline closet, without feeling the need to fill up an online one.

Boblo: your honesty is a wonderful thing; even now. Handles are OK but when you're an honest poster people can easily find out who you are as you keep mentioning personal information and anecdotes. UncleFes made this point a while ago. All it would take would be 10% of tamim's scholarly skills.
But someone would track down this MeTa thread and find you out anyway. Meanwhile, congratulations - for the songs alone!
