why do I feel like this meTa is some sort of jinx? Maybe pb should shut everything down for 24 hours so y'all can go do whatever without having to worry that multiple mefites will pick today to have a meltdown.

Then she looked at it, and said, oh wow, yeah, it seems a lot more organized. And I said yes, and incredibly well-moderated. Really, I think that's one of the key things that sets MeFi apart.

Too bad you have to share Moderator's Day with the hosts of "Meet the Press". Seriously, David Gregory wouldn't last a day here.
I think a big part of MeFi's non-financial success is the belief in "Everything In Moderation. Including Moderation".

I think we all appreciate the moderators of the website, but does it require its own MetaTalk thread? If you read the guidelines, it says that MetaTalk is specifically for "Discussing community and website related issues," but congratulating the moderators isn't any sort of problem to be solved. I understand the sentiment behind this post, but I think I speak for the moderators when I say that this is an abuse of the gray and that you should deliver any congratulations using MeFi mail instead of publicly creating a thread. If everybody who wanted to congratulate the moderators made their own thread, MetaTalk would be cluttered with these sorts of threads. We specifically have website features such as flagging, reporting, email, instant message, and MeFiMail to avoid bringing these things out into the public. In general, the guidelines suggest that users avoid creating threads except to discuss issues that the entire community needs to address. If I am not mistaken, congratulating the moderators is something that all the members don't need to agree upon. You can privately congratulate them yourself, can't you? Since this isn't a community issue, I am even more perplexed that you would choose to create a MetaTalk thread for the issue. In the future, I would recommend writing down any MetaTalk thread ideas and waiting for twenty four hours before hitting post. If everyone did this, we'd be less swamped with discussions on this subsite and we can focus on the main point of the website, which is reading the news and asking questions. At the end of the day, we really just want to keep everyone happy and satisfied with a limitless supply of hamburgers.

Yeah, it's a bit embarrassing that I have managed to forget the holiday that I proposed every year since I proposed it, so I'm glad someone else is picking up my slack.

Then I went to a Gritty's meetup and Rusty was sitting at the bar.
"Metafilter?" he asked. But of course.
Then we had the Portland (Maine) meetup and Jessamyn and her crew came along and Cortex, with our other local MeFi Maine group. It was awesome.
And you all are awesome and you all should come to Maine and be blessed with the Amazing Cheesus at the Great Lost Bear. Especially Matt. Because we ride bicercles out hee-yah in Maine too, ahuy. PB, I'll stand you a pint! C'mon down, you crazy fools!

That's a bit of a puzzler, that one. Because on the one hand, cortex is a mod and so people should be nice to him on mod day. But on the other hand, you're a mod and so you should be able to do whatever you want on mod day.

That's a bit of a puzzler, that one. Because on the one hand, cortex is a mod and so people should be nice to him on mod day. But on the other hand, you're a mod and so you should be able to do whatever you want on mod day.

I met one of the mods once. This mod did not and still does not know it was me. We were on a flight to Seattle. I was the guy in 12E who spilled the coffee in your lap and then reached into your lap to dry it before you screamed about my hand being where it did not belong. Oh, I never sent the $20 to pay for the dry cleaning like I promised, but I did get 4 friends to join and one guy to sign up a sock puppet. Also, apologies again for kicking you when you finally went to sleep and I had to get out of the window seat and go to the bathroom for the 5th time. I really thought I could step over you and was as surprised as you were when my trailing leg did not make it and hit you square in the chest. But why did you have to call the flight attendant to tell him? I apologized and said I would not do it again. You kept screaming something about ban hammer or something. I apologize for laughing at you when you were screaming. Just how hard would you have to hit me with your ban hammer for it to hurt as much as I hurt you?
Anyway, what I am really trying to say is thank you mods for your time, effort and equilibrium.

MeFi is the one SNS© site I regularly read/respond to, and that includes some where I lead a group, and that is solely because of the quality & thoughtfulness of the mods here. Well done.
I've recommended MeFi to folks who've bemoaned other sites for any number of reasons. For some reason (I have poor taste in friends?) none of them have chipped in their 1/2-sawbuck. Complaints have ranged from the lack of graphics, can't post pictures, too many words, who th' f does cortex think he is? to all of which I say, Yay! MetaFilter makes me happy!

It seems that I have always been aspirationally cool. Like, not cool really, but would like to be. It's that little nerd girl in me that will be there forever, who peers out into the world and sez, I wish to be cool. Who is my current avatar of cool.
I'd say the mods fit my avatar coolness model. Hope that's that not creepy or anything.
