I'm intrigued re: Gift/UserAccounts. Is there a way/was there a way, to know which accounts are 'gift accounts'?
The reason I ask is because I'm a gift/user account and I have 1 contact. They made me a contact quite some time ago (I assume as giftuser46914). The only contacts they have are unresolved giftuser accounts, a fake mathowie and myself (a now resolved contact). I did MeMail my linker some time ago asking about this but they're an infrequent visitor, I didn't get an answer, hence my query.

You can check which account you have gifted on this page. Not sure thats the question, though.

Okay, it seems I haven't made myself clear. I didn't want to call out sailormouth for doing anything wrong, I was just curious.

I bought accounts for all of my spouses.

sailormouth was taking advantage of some leniency we have in the "add a contact" feature. We shouldn't have allowed any non-claimed guest accounts to be added as their contacts—just fixed that up.
There's no way to know which accounts were gift accounts, and I don't think that tells you much about the person. Gift accounts are a very small percentage of total accounts, and as you saw with sailormouth's contact list, many go unclaimed.

I think the fair thing to do is to give me the unclaimed accounts. I have 25 hilarious sockpuppet names ready to go.

Can you spot them? Depends on your timing.
A fraction of the time you just can't tell; they comment and post like any freeman.
Most of the time, though, you will see them toiling in corvée to their masters. Look for the pattern of favourites, and the shackles.

I never figured out how to use the "gift" feature (mostly because I didn't realize until recently that there IS one) and just straight up bought accounts for friends who picked their usernames and subsequently changed their passwords.
I guess if you go by PayPal history, it looks like I have a bunch of sockpuppets. Or I'm schizophrenic. Or both.

Huh. Checking out vacapinta's link, I see two active accounts I've gifted, but I know there's a third. Should I be taking this to the contact form? Could it indicate some sort of bug?

Sure, send me the account you're not seeing via mefi mail and I'll take a look.
