THey're still fucking over the guys from Infinity Ward though, right?

Yeah, because that involves actual money.

Out of all the booths at the GDC, Activision was probably the least fun. A very flashy booth. They were giving away stuff, but I was greeted with a "send us your resume online" which is code for "GO AWAY!" and pretty much all the big studios were like that. Blizzard had the decency of having a desk for students to hand in their resumes and talk to a few people. Valve, on the flipside, held a neat little seminar for students, and I actually got to ask Robin Walker a question.

I didn't have the pass to see the "Fired and fired up" GDC rant, but I have a feeling that next year someone from IW will be there. I will need alcohol for this, copious amounts of alcohol.

I've been meaning to write up my experiences at the GDC, but I'm worried it'll be too negative/cynical.

Can I get this in a double pack with Duke Nukem Forever?

Activision is still evil, they just realized that this wasn't worth being evil about.

The fans simply held a mirror up to Activision, which made them cry so they would see how terrible they had become and allow the game to continue development.

Since I am on principle not going to buy another Call of Duty game ever again Activision doesn't bother me too much. Plus that new Transformers game is pretty fun in multiplayer.

I still can't believe Activision is the same company that was started in 79 as a rebellion against Atari's loathing of its programmers.

Maybe the splinter studio from IW, Respawn, will be like that in 30 years. Who knows.

"Respawn" is an excellent name for that studio.

The game has been in development for over eight years...

How is that even possible, with all the hardware & OS changes spanning 8 years? And seriously, I know people have jobs and stuff, but... it's a game.

I think STALKER was in dev for about that long, and that was by a fulltime crew.

FTFY.

And used up about a months worth of italics tags.

Whenever I think about the Electronic Arts of my youth compared to the current company the cognitive dissonance is so strong I wake up hours later in a random location in or near my house, usually pantsless.

This reply's taken hours to compose, because of this

I have several friends who went through the Origin Systems/Electronic Arts grinder in the art dept. Their story gradually went from one of Brave New Frontier to a nightmare of never ending crunchtime, 16 hour days, 6 day weeks, and burnout. For a while, they really had Austin's best and brightest, and they chewed them up and spit them out.
