Death is the final heat August 8, 2010 9:11 AM Subscribe
At the Sauna World Championships in finland, featured in this post, A Russian competitor has died in the finals. The contest will never be held again, it has been announced.
This fight again? Precedent says an thread update here is fine.
Also, horrible way to die.

Not a fight, but it was discussed not too long ago, and it seems like the mods did start to push back a bit more on this sort of thing in MeTa.

From the article:
Nearly 1,000 spectators had gathered in the southern Finnish town of Heinola to watch 130 competitors from 15 countries, waving flags and cheering on the contestants before medical workers pulled the shaking and bleeding men out of the sauna.
What did Hamlet say about Denmark? Sounds like Finland's weirder and worse, the southern part roundabout Heinola, at least.

I was aware of the debate about updates on MeTa, and comments from the mods on that subject, when I posted this and it seemed to be OK to put here.

Eh, I'm leaning on this being a post it if it's worth a post situation; it wasn't a big or notable or mefihistorical thread in the first place, so a an update here does feel like not really necessary, per those recent discussions.

I find that I am having a really difficult time understanding the path that leads someone to competitive sauna-ing.
I'm also curious now about how one scores a sauna. Is there a style component? Do you add a difficulty multiplier if you attempt the sauna while wearing a wool sweater?

Speechless.
