how to link to a new page, womewhere other than the top? September 2, 2010 8:00 AM   Subscribe

How do you link to a comment, not a page?

I see many people on MeTa linking to specific places on a page, not the top. I have also seen it when somebody recommends a specific comment made on another thread. How do you do that?

Thanks!

Right click on the time stamp of the comment, copy the link address, then make a link to that.

Look for the timestamp in a comment's byline; that's a link to that specific comment. Rightclick, copy, paste, bam!

Pony Request: Add a symbol (maybe [Q] after the [+] [!]) to make that process streamlined. It has really caught on in longer threads and is a hassle.

This is true across a ton of other blog-type sites as well. It's called a permalink and some say pb invented it.

Now that we got this settled, can we leave this thread open for dorkie jokes and stupid links?

Clicking [q] would create this in the reply box:

2bucksplus

Everything else would still be up to the user.

Holy crap! I new PB was brilliant, but reading that interview and his past credits puts him on a whole 'nother level of brilliant?

Fucking brilliant? Awesomely brilliant? Wonderfully awesome brilliant? Yeah, something like that.

Little known fact: pb went back in time and murdered the man who created the ██████████ HTML tag.

Some say he invented the permalink. All we know is he's called The Stig pb.

Oh - stop

With your math in the air and your head in the clouds
Think of a cat and box it, yeah
Before the waveforms collapse
Put some radium in with it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my cat (x3)

Way out kinds of science
Set me swimmin'

My head's swimmin' 'bout superposition
Animals are hiding between the states
Decay the little atom
But they told me, I swear
Tryin' to explain to me, sci-psi.

Where is my cat (x3)

Way out kinds of science
Set me swimmin'

Your mind is science diet.

Every time I feed my cats I announce loudly to them: "It's your diet! Made of SCIENCE!" It never gets old. For me, anyway. I'm sure the cats stopped finding me funny eons ago and are doing the cat equivalent of rolling their eyes.

the cat equivalent of rolling their eyes.

This is pretty much just the normal mode of operation for cats.

This is where dogs are infinitely better - endlessly joyful and enthusiastic. I can see why the hipster cat meme caught on so quickly - cats really do think that they're so superior.

Sinfest knows this.
