"call with google voice"

In this comment, the phone number shows as a link that does a "call with google voice" for me... neat stuff! But, I've never seen this done before. Viewing the page source didn't show any html to create it.

How was this done?

Does not do it for me. Must be something you've installed.

Do you have the Google Voice plugin installed in Chrome?

Or thew Google Voice chrome extension, which is doing it for me

Yes, I do have google voice in chrome... never noticed that before....

but, when I surf around, most phone numbers do this...

thanks... question answered!

There's an option in the extension options to stop that.

"Google voice" is a good name for that sound my cat makes when it vomits.

My Blackberry also does that with anything that resembles a phone number on a web page.

Every phone browser does that, as far as I know. Sometimes false positives pop up but those are easily ignored.

My iphone quite annoyingly considers dotted-quad IPs to be phone numbers, so to copy them I have to copy text around them, go into notes, paste, then copy out the IP, and then I can paste from there into, say, the ssh client.

Grrrrrr.

I am hoping someone will mock me for this in such a way as to provide a better workaround.

Jailbreaking would fix that. I don't know how, but it just would.

Anybody know if there's a widget to enable this for safari for mac? I like chrome on my pc, but I only really use safari on my mac and would like to enable this.

All I know is that eventually they'll put this out for my Android phone and life will be good. Losing the UMA (voip when near a wifi router) on my BlackBerry has been the hardest thing about the transition from one phone to the other.

Plus, it would give me an excuse to use my google voice number, which I hardly ever do.

Isn't this, like, an Askme?

*ducks*

Maybe, but (trolling through OP's history warning) their last AskMe was a little less than a year ago. And the post is about MetaFilter. So I doubt they used this to get around anything. Which is fine with me.

And we all know that my opinion is the one that matters.

It's not us, it's you. Skype does the same thing unless you turn it off. It recognizes phone numbers in web pages and makes them all clickable.
