Gimme my meetups November 12, 2010 4:44 PM   Subscribe

Bug-Filter: Recent Meetups pane only shows one meetup per city per day even if multiple meetups occured.

On Oct. 30, there were two meetups in Seattle. However, the Recent Meetups pane on the right site of MeTa only provides a link to the bumper car meetup. In the minuscule sample size we have it looks as though it pulls the latest meetup for the day and no others.

Looks like there was only one meetup in Seattle on Oct. 30. The other was a performance: They're both a short walk from Capitol Hill. We only show events in the Meetup category on the MetaTalk sidebar.

Looks like that was misfiled, though, so I went ahead and put it in the Meetup category.

I intentionally filed that as a performance—should it have been a meetup instead? It seemed much more like us being somewhere to watch a thing rather than sitting around a pub drinking beers.

I mean, not that I care particularly, no need to change the other one back, but I'd love an Official MetaFilter Mod Clarification™.

My rule of thumb is that something categorized as a meetup is about MeFites getting together somewhere for the purpose of getting together. If the main reason for being somewhere is something else, it probably belongs in another category.

So yeah, looks like I was too quick to move this to a meetup. Sorry about that, grouse.

Is the performer a mefite? Is that not the controlling criteria for whether an event is appropriate for the performance category? Really, I don't know. I don't spend much time on IRL.

It still feels like a meetup to me.

I don't know. If you're going to a concert with a group you probably aren't going to converse much so that doesn't seem like a meetup. The purpose of being there is to see the show. If you're meeting up before or after a show, that feels more like a meetup to me. It's a gray area, for sure.

Dude, grouse, that was totally a meetup. We met up, had waffles, walked to the thing together, talked through the thing, then left the thing togther. That's about as meetupy as it gets.

And I'll second that I always thought of performances as events containing mefites performing. Not just any old performance some mefites attend. Let's be real, any gathering of mefites is a performance.
