In a recent thread about events, dong_resin mentioned what I thought was a good idea. Basically, just add a category gatherings, or events to the category list.
On a side note, is it considered gauche to post a gathering or event request to MetaTalk? There were some people interested in a Seattle MeFi, but I think it got lost when it fell off the front page...

For whatever it's worth, I'd like to second Patrickje's suggestion. ...I typed up some other stuff so it didn't look like this was just a "me too" thread, but then I deleted it cuz it was pretty hokey. =)

The 7th would work for me, I have a baby shower on the 6th (my wife's friend, a couple thing...ugh). Anyhoo, that's a sunday, so I am pretty open. I just moved to the Seattle area several months ago, so any suggestions as to places, and things to do would be nice.

So far, we Seattle Webloggers seem to prefer the Pyramid Alehouse for our get-togethers. After having tried the Rock Bottom, the Elephant & Castle, and the Red Hook Brewery, Pyramid seems to offer the most space, the most conversation-friendly atmosphere, and the most accomodating waitstaff. If you're making reservations for a large number of people, try to secure seats in the upper level.
If I weren't already busy on Sundays, I'd be there.

The last two MeFiSeas have occured at Sunset Bowl (and the second went on to karaoke). I would advise a mailing on the MeFiSea mailing list (maintained by kindall, I believe)... But I know not how to go about it. Were there a gathering on the seventh, I would do my darndest to make it.

I can go on the seventh and even help organize -- the Seattle Webloggers and the Seattle MeFi folks are groups that sort of, but not totally overlap. The MeFi gatherings have been smaller. I kind of like going someplace where there is something to do other than eat and drink. But, if eating and drinking is all we're doing, I'd love a place that is in-city -- the Elysian, Piecora's, People's Pub. Anyone have ideas? Anyone not like bowling?

The Deluxe on a Sunday night would be cool. Pool tables, conversational atmosphere etc. . .

Oh, I could so do the Deluxe (or Elysian)- I live maybe 3 blocks from there. In fact, anything on or near Capitol Hill is spiff-a-rific...

What, there's another Seattle get-together planned? Maybe I will actually manage to show up this time. I have no idea where the Deluxe is, but pool sounds fun. I'm in Belltown, so anywhere downtown or Capitol Hill is good. It's a shame the speakeasy burned; it was perfect for this sort of thing...

Okay -- Capitol Hill it is. Where's the Deluxe? Is it a good place to be on a Sunday early evening, late afternoon?

The Deluxe is on the north end of Broadway at the corner of Broadway and Roy. Right by the Harvard Exit theater. Two blocks from my apartment. If I'm not rehearsing, I may pop in.

Just a couple doors up from where the Minnie's used to be. What time are we shooting for?
The Deluxe used to be cool; I haven't been in but once since they yuppied up their decor and replaced the once reliable burgers and pub grub with the chic-chic menu from Fancy McPosh's. I'm hoping it hasn't become like the Rockbottom, with "beautiful people" ad execs and $10 drinks...

They tried the upscale approach for a while, and it nearly sank them. The burgers and pub grub are back along with the bakers, the cheap happy hour appetizers, and a couple pool tables to boot. The only remaining la-de-da touches are the unfortunate ironwork and the de rigeur nonfunctional fireplace. It's not the same lovable dive it used to be, but it's not a fern bar either. Tip the Irish bartender well if he's working, he's cool.
I don't want to take the rap for this if everyone ends up hating it. I just go there occasionally. YMMV. Caveat emptor. Semper fi. Uh . . . hey, look over there!

Afternoon or evening? The Garage has free pool for the ladies [which experience has shown will be *me* only] Sunday nights, other end of Broadway, which could be a post-Deluxe option.

Hey, I'm up for about anything. Just remember, I'm coming up from Federal Way, so the only places I know in Seattle are the
1) Woodland Park Zoo (cuz I got kids)
2) Pike Place Market (who doesn't)
3) Boeing Field area, that's where I work.

It's not at all like that hinc. The pub-grub is still there, only Broadway Grillified a bit on certain items.
I didn't bring up 'The D' in order for it to dissuade more discussion as to the whens and wheres. I'm easy to please. 'The D' just so happens to be my old waterin' hole, so it quickly comes to mind when ideas are needed. Anywhere up and down Cap Hill is excitement enough for me. (Now that I've moved to the ass-end of Queen Anne)
I would prefer evening jessamyn. I get off at nine (if it is Sunday we're doing this thing). Obviously, I seek to not have this evening out contingent on me (first the suggestion of the Deluxe, now it 'has to be after nine' type shit). After nine is merely when I'd be free.
Tip the Irish bartender well if he's working, he's cool.
Padraic's his name. But if it is Sunday night, we'll get my ex-roommate, David. They're both cool.

Can I get a "Whoop! Der it is!" from the Dawg Pound, please?
So sounds like we're meeting at the Deluxe around 6pm (?), and then later, perhaps, make our way to The Garage at the other end of Broadway.

I'll be seeing y'all at the Garage then. I can't make the Deluxe at six. 9:30 or 10 at the Garage??? Is that for sure where you all are going to be?
Nothing more dorky than meeting internet people you've never met, than to ask the waitstaff of an establishment where the people are who all met previously over the internet. Something must be done about that stigma.

...and the saddest part is, they always know exactly where they are. I'm up for the Garage, personally, so can we give you a definite maybe?

The Garage is on Broadway, toward the south end of Capitol Hill, across from the Polyclinic, half a block south of E. Union. It's a block from the QFC on the corner of Pike & Broadway, which is kitty-corner from the Texaco where all the cabs wait. It's west across the alley from the IHOP, two blocks and around the corner from the Mercury, north across Madison from Seattle University, and three blocks south of SCCC.
I'd love it if we all went over there afterward; it's my favourite place to play pool. And the staff are nice.

yep, l'Garage rocks. Can't recall how busy the tables get on a Sunday evening, but I'm pretty sure their Sunday (or is it Monday?) prices are pretty dang cheap...
So how about the Deluxe at 6:30-7 instead, then head to the Garage at 9? That way people have some idea of when to show up where?

Speaking of which, did the Seattle MeFi thing get decided for the 6th or the 7th of April? I've yet to go to one of these things... :(
