I'd use the word troll in this case, but it has some connotations that are a bit loaded given the subject.

Newish user unclear on the concept or just deliberately obnoxious? No e-mail address in the profile (natch), so no opportunity to politely remind them offline.

Speaking of trolls, and shitty mean-spirited comments in general...

(Not trying to derail the thread, I just thought adnanbwp's commentary was sub-Fark level and unnecessary)

Stumpy McGee doesn't concern me. I just pat his head and send him on his way.

I don't think it was trolling. NortonDC -- way too much information.

I thought it was kind of funny, but altogether ignorable.

rcade - It wasn't any more appealing to me than it was to you.

Got to watch the mojo...

That's not even close to being a troll, more like defending his (wee bit of) honor. ;-P

The irony of being sensitive about his height, yet his chosen handle/nick being 'stumpy mcgee' is not lost on me.

it's the multiple angry/bitter off-putting thread-killing responses that bother me a bit, though only a bit. I guess it doesn't matter much. I mean, most threads die in about 2 days, usually, anyway, right?

plus, as rcade implied, he's responding at about the same level as previous posts, just more vehemently. and bitterly. did I mention bitter?
posted by gohlkus at 12:38 PM on May 1, 2002

Well, the thread certainly hit someone's "sore spot" dead on, didn't it?

Ya know, anyone who's that emotional on a topic isn't going to hear (nor understand) any well-intentioned comments on his behavior, so why bother?

I'm not a troll. I'm a little bear. You read my profile, did you not?

"Newish user unclear on the concept or just deliberately obnoxious? No e-mail address in the profile (natch), so no opportunity to politely remind them offline."

That's some pretty deep psychoanalysis.

Why don't you like me? I never said anything mean about you. So I said some violent words, so what? I'm just a furry little animal who can bring you honey and flowers - how can you NOT like me?

Who the fuck is that bitch? She needs to have her head crushed by multiple axe wounds.

"The irony of being sensitive about his height ..."

Who the fuck said I'm sensitive about my height? I just don't like stupid people who say and do stupid shit. The same people who think that they can talk smack and do all kinds of rude shit right in front of you without you telling them to go fuck themselves. I don't tolerate that kind of behavior - I put these people in their place.

"... yet his chosen handle/nick being 'stumpy mcgee' is not lost on me."

You're very perceptive.

Can't a furry little bear be a tiny bit bitter? When I don't get my honey, I get really grumpy.

Dear Xena,

Please read my reply to your comments in the original thread.

Thank you.

What is "YUO"? Is that a Seminole sub-tribe? Bannedville sounds like a nice place somewhere in northern Florida.

Yah. So.
Everybody just drop it, and let Matt take care of things. Anything else you say is obviously only going to encourage/provoke him.

Does anyone know of a chat room / site where you can actively go wave your arms about and shout oogah boogah? Sometimes I would like a good head-to-head rant with someone, but I know too well that this is not the place.

"Thanks for clearing up my uncertainty, Stumpy."

Brian,

I apologize for the miscommunication here, but I don't believe dark humor is that offensive, especially when it's highly generalized and not directed towards anyone in particular.

From the posting guidelines section: "And lastly, don't troll (quick definition: posting purposely inflammatory things for the sole purpose of baiting others to argue the points until blue in the face - basically people do this for kicks, to destroy conversations and communites, for the hell of it)."

I've made a few humorous comments (at least, it seemed so to me - humor is subjective). I never thought anyone would do anything but laugh at me.

If what I've done falls within the bounds of trolling, then my apologies to all. I really meant no harm.

Sincerely,

Stumpy

why has this one been ignored:

they dont look like traditional zionist occupants of land and lives. The women are almost pretty.

Stumpy was funny, this is just hatred.
posted by Mick at 8:29 PM on May 2, 2002

Agreed, Mick. At least Stumpy did call that one correctly. The game itself sounded bad enough - I chose not to click on it in either thread - but it called up images of the hacked games where the object is switched to hunting down ni**ers instead of whatever, with plenty of KKK banter to push you along. Adnanbwp's comment only added to the feeling.
posted by yhbc at 8:51 PM on May 2, 2002

I will second Mick here. I think everyone is ignoring adnanbwp's comment due to I/P fatigue, but it was really unacceptable.

I mean -- the thread is about a flash game in which one attempts to kill as many Israelis as possible, and adnanbwp's complaint is that the female victims are too pretty to be Israeli.

I too am bored by the I/P "debates" -- but this is just pure hatred, and should not escape sanction because we're all tired of the subject.

Entered as evidence:
Comment 1 and Comment 2.

If anyone here should have the misfortune to meet with foul play, we'll know where to start looking. How would you feel about your girlfriend or your daughter's safety at an event where this stuff passes for humor?

In Dr. Watson's voice, with that distinct RP accent:

"Excellent work, Holmes. But how on Earth were you able to connect the two comments? I never would have thought that our friend Stumpy McGee, who happens to be one of Moriarty's henchmen from Glasgow, was capable of saying such awful things."
