mobile saddle required for old pony

For some time I've been moving around MetaFilter on mobile, and I'm missing the 'Contact Activities' (side bar feature). I can't keep up with my favourite pack nearly as well.

Any chance of providing mobile access to my Contact Activities? I know I can switch to the standard site to keep up but it defeats the purpose of going mobile, and I tend to forego the switch.

No need to switch to standard! Go to Recent Activity, then hop down to the bottom of the page and find the "Recent Activity: My Contacts" link in the submenu down there. That'll take you to the same full-fledged contact activity page as you'd get to by clicking the "all activity" link at the bottom of the contact activity sidebar on the standard site.

If you want to check this often and want to avoid the extra click or two, you can always just bookmark that page on your phone as well to get to it faster.

Thanks for asking this -- though I see it almost every day, I also had missed the Recent Activity: My Contacts feature. Fantastic.

Let me also just take this time to thank the powers that be for the mobile site being so awesome. With the exception of when I'm working from home (and must use my laptop), I rarely use a PC at home anymore, mostly because I can keep up with MetaFilter on my phone so easily.

(My partner doesn't always appreciate sharing the bed with MeFites but I'm trying to get better about that.)

The big thing missing in the mobile version is the sidebar. I don't know how you could show it on the mobile page, but it's lack makes me FEEL EMPTY.

Given the seriously limited real estate of the mobile browser environment, your best plan for filling that sense of emptiness is to load up contact activity on a second phone and hold it up next to the phone you're viewing the main site on.

Is there an app that'll span the displays on two iPhones? Not really a serious question, because I'd be in trouble if I bought another one.
