What happened to jonson?

People liked his work.

This June 2008 answer in the green seems to be his last contribution.

He's remembered fondly in this October 2010 MeTa post.

I found no evidence of a flameout. Did he start using a different name?

Did he start using a different name?

OK, jonson, (or should I call you by your new name, Trurl?*) self links are a no-no!

*Note: I have absolutely no evidence of this.

He ended up deciding to be away from the site for a while, as I recall. No flameout or anything, was more a thing where he'd been thinking about it for a while and one day decided to go ahead and flip the switch, at least for a while.

I do not know if he came back under a different name. If he did come back under a different name and hadn't made that pointedly public, it wouldn't be something that'd be up for public discussion in any case.

There are a few other users who have taken breaks/left/disappeared recently.

elizardbits: "shakespeherian? zomg."

Yeah, his leaving was really upsetting. Hope it's a short break. :(

I always wondered about smedlyman, but didn't see any discussion.

Mutant, which is really too bad- it would be nice to have another finance guy in discussions of countries leaving the Euro.

I miss The Straightener but I can see why he may have burned out here.

Man, I take a break for a couple hours every day.

Nobody ever even notices.

mercredi

I was in those threads, watching it go down.

It was bad . . . bad. The 'nastiest interpretation possible and run with it' monster was in full-force.

Pope Guilty went again? Well, damn.

Ahem… isn't this one of those "contact a moderator" things?

Well, I hope you guys are satisfied. You chased all these people away! Maybe you'll think twice about saying those nasty things you say just to win your silly little petty argument next time.

I hear he's been hammered lately.

Really, he's been working himself stiff.

Publicly discussing someone who demonstrably wishes to not be involved here just now is pretty tone-deaf.

I hear his access was removed by a band of German nihilists and their pet muskrat.

who demonstrably wishes to not be involved here

Demonstrated by what?

Not by any publicly posted comment - as best I could tell after searching for one. Nor by the "disabled account" notice. [I know from personal experience that this does not necessarily mean "does not wish to be involved here".]

If you want to argue that I should have contacted the mods privately, OK. But members might have had information that they didn't.

Becoming a possible subject of interest to other MeFites is an occupational hazard of making 600 posts.

This is the sort of thing that, yeah, is probably mostly just for dropping us a line.
