Is My MetaFilter In My YouTube? July 27, 2012 12:01 PM   Subscribe

I thought there was a way to view a removed FPP? Do those land somewhere? I was just enjoying a link that was posted, but now the FPP is gone! I assume it was removed.

They exist at the URL they were originally at, so you can look through your history of whatever browser you are using and they will be there. Alternately they do show up on the deleted posts blog but sometimes not until later. There are a few Greasemonkey scripts that allow folks to see the deleted posts inline.

Here is the most popular deleted posts script. If you use Firefox, you'll need to install Greasemonkey. Chrome can run scripts natively.

Posts are also sequentially numbered, and referenced by those numbers (not the titles). If you know about when the post was made, you can go to a post near it and manually move through the post numbers in the html address.

Great tip, themanoftwistsandturns, I had not thought of that.
Jessamyn: I knew there was probably a greasemonkey thing, but was after the link that FAMOUSMONSTER posted.

Thanks!

In addition to what everyone else said, if you've favorited any comments in the thread, I believe those will still show up in your favorites. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong about this.)

One quirk of that script that is heavily non-intuitive, TangerineGurl, is that if there is no post newer than a deleted post (in other words, if it hadn't been deleted it would be the post at the top of the page) then the script won't catch it and you'll have to find it by manually manipulating the URL, as the man of twists and turns mentions.

He's referring to deceased metafilter member puke & cry who kept an excellent deleted posts blog for a number of years.

It's here, but it doesn't display deleted stuff any more. Now what about Baby Jane?

Wow. Here is the thread talking about that deletion where mathowie reads everyone the definition of censorship.
