2012 Metafilter Football Smackdown!
I've made a fantasy football league for those of you interested in joining. It's League ID 642451 and the password in danbejar.
We're doing a live draft at 1pm EST on Sunday, August 26th. I think I set it for eight teams. Please join if you're serious about sticking with it for the whole season! Thanks!

I'm in. It seems to be a Yahoo league. Either that, or someone created an exact copy on Yahoo after this post appeared.
Here's hoping we can get more than eight teams, since small leagues are super lame.

Yes, it is a Yahoo group. Sorry for the confusion. We can change it to two RBs and one flex. I have no problem with that. Thanks for the suggestion!
The only scoring change I made was to make easy FGs worth less points and penalizing kickers that miss them. So draft a good kicker!

I think he's alluding to the fact that people always confuse soccer with football, the English Premier Division games having recently started.

Fister Roboto, robocop is bleeding, can we please specify "NFL" and "FIFA" respectively the next time we do these kinds of threads? You guys can't pretend to be surprised that there's more than one type of football.

The Yahoo setup is pretty forgiving for newbies. If you understand football and can tell a wide receiver from a running back, you'll be fine. Check out the automatic draft rankings, look at what players scored last year, think about promising rookies, decide on a strategy (e.g. find a good QB vs. an elite RB), and go for it.

Just jump in, provided that the league gets expanded. One thing to note is that guys who touch the ball a lot get you most of your points (that is, top-flight RBs). Outside of the top 5 QBs, the next 10 or so are all pretty interchangeable.
There's also nothing wrong with just picking your favorite players.

Okay, I opened it up to two more teams, for a total of ten. In my experience, any more than that and the talent pool gets really diluted.

Yeah, but that's the point of having more teams. You have to work harder for it and can't just throw together an all-star team like you're the Lakers or something.
