Oh wait, I had MetaFilter upside down. September 23, 2012 12:02 PM   Subscribe

I object to this deletion since the double was Welsh and calling an Asda, not Belfast Irish calling what presumably is not an Asda. It would be ideal to post both in one thread as a compilation of pizza complaints but each is enjoyable to hear in its own way.

They're identical jokes, aren't they? Guy with accent calls pizza place and complains that he asked for topping on one side, got toppings on the other side. Am I missing something?

It would work fine as a comment in the original post. It doesn't need it's own posting.

I just think they're different conversations even though they have the same punchline, and yes, I like hearing the Belfast accent. Obviously neither are super serious posts, but it seemed like enough for some light Sunday afternoon fun with some jokes and sharing of personal anecdotes to follow. Not a big deal, though.

It's a meme now, so the variations all belong in ONE thread, right?

No, it's pleasant to listen to in addition to the joke, at least for this Midwestern American.

A SLYT mystery-meat post, linking to an unamusing, already-been-done prank phone call? "Double" was a very generous deletion reason.
posted by Dimpy at 12:23 PM on September 23, 2012 [6 favorites]

It may not be a strict double, but it's weak sauce and deserving of deletion, Sunday or no, accent or no. Definitely not worth a weekend Meta.

It may not be a strict double

So it's not a double.

It's not a post on a subject that already has an open post or a post on a subject MeFi has been flooded by posts on, either.

It's kind of a weak sauce deletion. Just my personal preference but I'd take the presence of possible weak sauce posts over weak sauce deletions.
posted by Artw at 12:41 PM on September 23, 2012

"An Asda" as in "a Wallmart".

Wal*mart only has one l. The other one turned into an asshole somehow.

So it's not a double.

It's pretty double-y. I feel like the issue here is more that "double" feels like a strict binary ("It's either a double or it's not!") whereas "eh, this is not very good and we've kinda done it before" doesn't, but if I'd been on the clock at the time I'd have written just that and meant precisely the same thing.

michaelh [Poster]: "The users must control the means of deletion."

OOO This sounds fun!

The theory of Metafilter may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all moderation.

From each according to his favorites, to each according to his metawhining.

MetaTalk repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.

Users of the MetaFilter unite; you have nothing to lose but this helpful service quietly editing out all of the embarrassing shit you say.

Grar/hoppitamoppita is the opium of the masses

If anything is certain, it is that I am myself not a Mefite

For the moderator, the website is a mere object to be manipulated by him.

A cortex deletion reason appears at first sight an extremely obvious, trivial thing. But its analysis brings out that it is a very strange thing, abounding in metaphysical subtleties and theological niceties.

The moderators will do anything for the users but get off their backs.

Moderation has always existed, but not always in a moderate form.

I don't care about whether or not this post was deleted, but SPEAKING OF funny youtube videos linked on metafilter, I watched this Whose Line video that was recently linked in an AskMe. In the comments to that video, there was a link to a 27 part Best of Whose Line youtube playlist that everyone should know about. I wanted to link to it in the original thread, but the question was not about your favorite legendary 4 hours worth of youtube viewing.

So.

I just can't help myself,

You are horrified at our intending to do away with moderation. But in your existing society, moderation is already done away with for nine-tenths of the population; its existence for the few is solely due to its non-existence in the hands of those nine-tenths. You reproach us, therefore, with intending to do away with a form of moderation, the necessary condition for whose existence is the non-existence of any freedom for the immense majority of the website.

Moderation decisions are always paradox, if judged by everyday experience, which catches only the delusive appearance of things.
