Can we move the music player to the top of Mefimusic posts that exploit the "more inside" function. This has bothered me for years really. Recent feedback has confirmed that this confuses the heck out of people.

If this is done intentionally to minimize bandwidth usage because that's what is best for Mefi, I'm on board.

If this is easy to do and wouldn't hurt, I think it's downright necessary.

Ah, so you mean put the player at the same spot it is located on the front page, but put the more inside below the player when viewing a "thread" page's view?

Huh. Yeah, what mathowie described - that is kinda weird.

Indeed. While it is obvious to old-hatters, this can be very confusing, especially to NewJack and his posse, especially when lyrics are presented in the "more inside" field and and especially when they're formatted poetically.

also, I'm a grown-ass man, but I still find it disconcerting when the likes of Mathowie uses scare-quotes. Is he making fun of me? Is he communicating unironically? Do you think he'd want to be in my band if I asked him?

Since we're discussing MeFi music, users like me might not realize that there is more than just the awesome songs being posted in that area like a whole page of music posts like on the blue. I just put this video of the Yardbirds covering the Velvet Underground in 1968 on there.

MeteFilter is the best $5 I've ever spent.

Nothing you think is happening is happening. You are overthinking it, but the good news is that places you in the best tradition of MetaTalk.

I never noticed that before but yeah, that seems sort of inconsistent and wacky.

If I can piggyback here, my pet peeve about the player has always been that the VOLUME CONTROL has a default setting of one-less-than-full volume. This constantly messes with my mind, as most of the time there's a bit of effort involved in ensuring that my tracks are mastered reasonably well (volume-wise, anyway); as dynamic and loud as they can be without peaking. And then when I upload them they are quieter...unless I click that tiny, tiny finger-cursor on the oh-so-tiny volume meter to restore the volume, (which resets back to the default with each track you play.)
Should the default not be full-volume? Does one-notch-below-the-loudest succeed in protecting ears for which one more notch of volume is just too much?
Does anyone even use a browser-based volume control? Don't people just turn it up or down on their computer or interface? Is it just me?
Not a huge deal, but it always struck me as odd.

Yes, if we're voting.

Should the default not be full-volume?
Yes, where full volume = 11.
