Get thee behind me FPP! March 25, 2013 7:42 AM   Subscribe

I haven't seen one in the usual haunts, but is there an existing or easily-adaptable script to remove a post from the front page?

I am really curious about your intended use for this.

I'm pretty sure I'd use it to slowly drive mad another MeFite to whose computer I had regular access. (Such as if my wife were a MeFite.)

I'm curious too.

Do you mean, remove it from the front page for just you, or for the whole world?

Just for me.

Also, my intended use for this is to make it slightly more difficult to access certain threads during hours I should be productive.

I'm pretty sure watching videos of sleepy corgis enhances productivity.

Are these hypothetical sleepy corgis, phunnimee, or do we have live-action sleepy corgis on the front page right now? I NEED YOU TO BE STRAIGHT WITH ME.

Sleepy Corgi

Enough of that crap, let's fight: tiger vs dog pack!

Otherwise MeFi Gag Order might help the OP.

You could also use My MeFi to hide threads with certain tags, but it is shotgun approach to the problem.

The latter. Email in profile.

I just take any opportunity I can to reference the now-defunct CorgiCam. Best week of my life.

I'm pretty sure we need to violently restructure our lives away from the grim capitalistic whet stone grind and toward the social harmony and group support of Corgi live streams.

I have a script that removes live-action sleepy corgis FPPs for everyone. I have been auto-deleting these at an average rate of 12 per day for over a year, now, with only a few slipping through. I do this because I am evil. You're welcome.

I don't know of any scripts offhand that do this specific sort of thing, but I would guess it'd be a pretty simple thing to throw together if you want to ask someone nicely. Just something that would search for a given set of post ids and hid the respective divs.

But would it be an evil script?

If someone were to be so kind as to throw such a thing together I would be both grateful and in their debt.

Is it overweight? Was the camera angle bad? Has the image been improperly scaled? Or is it really a sad little block of dog? THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PLAY GOD!

You people are insane, that dog looks like a chibi German Shepherd and also how can you not want to HUG THAT DOG.

see this is why you need the script because you have a problem.

A problem with puppies.

That is not a dog. That is The Gatekeeper. Or the Keymaster. Not sure which. I always get those two confused.

The toxoplasmosis won't let me hug dogs anymore.

To answer your question, griphus: For a mac there's always Self Control which you could set to specific thread urls.

griphus: "You people are insane, that dog looks like a chibi German Shepherd and also how can you not want to HUG THAT DOG."

He is a sad little dog because he knows that he is the ugliest dog in the history of ever. That doesn't mean I wouldn't hug him and give him belly scritches.

And I thought the day couldn't get weirder. But what cortex said. Also: puppies are cute and they are dogs who are also cute.

For a one-time removal: in Firefox you can do Tools → Web Developer → Inspect, and then click on any element in the page, which causes a callout bubble to appear above it. On the right end of the bubble is a drop-down list of options, one of them being "Delete Node". You have to do this twice - once for the post title and one for the block containing the above-the-fold text and links. (I'm hoping that those menu options are built-in so that everyone has them, rather than the result of some extension I've installed; if not, let me know and I can figure out which extension it is.)
