Changes to MetaTalk June 13, 2002 3:22 PM   Subscribe

Just a note to future posters to MetaTalk, I've removed the option to make new posts about "general weblog-related" items, as Blogroots is a much better place to do it, and designed for that subject matter. The site is just getting off the ground but will turn into a resource that is much more fully featured than anything MetaTalk can offer. I also took the "ticketstubs related" category out as I've languished on that idea for two years and it didn't make much sense to keep it around for now. I'm planning on going back to it this summer with the hopes of finally launching it, between the code here, at sportsfilter, and blogroots, I've got everything I need already written somewhere for it.

I forgot to add: I'll keep the categories around for archival purposes of the old posts, you can read all the previously posted weblog-related posts, but there won't be any new ones.

Good luck with Blogroots, Matt. And who won the copies of the book that you were giving away?

And who won the copies of the book that you were giving away?

Oh, I emailed all five immediately, and got 4 responses back in the next 24 hours. Then I went on a vacation. The fifth person still hasn't gotten back to me, so I'm going to grab one new winner right now to replace them.

In other words, I was waiting until all five got back to me before announcing them. (it was for a different book, btw)

I just randomly grabbed a new fifth entry ID, and the winners are here now.

Who was the person that didn't respond. I entered the giveaway but my hotmail account has bulkmail filters so I might have missed the email had I won.

It wasn't a hotmail address, and it appeared to be a woman's name. It's been a full week that it was unclaimed so I gave it away to someone else.

I just visited and joined Blogroots. It's looking good and reading well! I won't be posting for a while as I'm enjoying the coolness of having "zero comments" on my user page too much.

Congratulations and thanks, Matt!

Matt : Are there policies or guidelines about things like self-linking and so on at blogroots? I didn't feel it was appropriate to try and post a thread there to ask the question (no RootsTalk), and I'm curious. Is the plan to let community standards evolve organically there (if indeed it is being envisioned as a community site - I'm still a little vague on this), and if so, how do you foresee making people aware of those standards? Or alternately, do you folks plan on publishing some guidelines for participation, either proactively or reactively (sorry : jargon)?

Miguel, coolness is still having zero comments when you joined four days ago. ;)

Excellent work, Matt and co. Great to see that it's shaping up as a meeting place for more than just our MeTa/MeFi crowd, too.

starvos - from the suggest a post link label, I just assumed it was like slashdot with editors that decide what does and doesn't get posted.

I hate my Blogroots user number (It's 66).

Yeah starvos, we're working on getting clear detailed guidelines out after we have some good seed content (which we should have done ourselves for a week or two before going public). There are a ton of things planned for the site, and I'm building them as fast as time allows.

I think the text-title "Blogroots" should be clickable to return to the home page. That's what I think.

Matt always calls me 'starvos'. I like to think of it like Archie Bunker calling his son-in-law 'Meathead'.

I think the text-title "Blogroots" should be clickable to return to the home page.

Somebody hire that man, quick!

I agree with Succa. I found myself madly clicking on the Blogroots title the other day, and...

I was meaning to correct that homepage-title-as-link, so I just did. Thanks for reminding me to do it.
