Thread win pony request November 27, 2013 8:36 AM   Subscribe

Pony request! The threadwin extension is very useful. I would like it to play well with AskMe & MetaTalk.

In the script, just after
// @include http://www.metafilter.com/*

I added

// @include http://ask.metafilter.com/*
// @include http://metatalk.metafilter.com/*

however, the script borks on questions that have "best answers" marked, or, I think, replies from the OP (does not sort the list properly)…..and also on metatalk threads.

I'm unsure of the subtle formatting differences that AskMe and Metatalk have vs regular mefi. Userscript mavens, hope me!

FYI I'm running tampermonkey on the latest version of chrome 31.0.1650.57 on OS X 10.6.8.

I thought this was going to be a script that auto-Godwinned threads

Yes, it changes the bylines on each comment to e.g. "you know who else this was posted by at 3:27 PM on..."

So this is the Thanksgiving thread we can argue about the usage of favourites in? You cannot rank my fabulousness!

15, if you must know

No, this is the Thanksgiving thread where we who have titles turned off complain about posts in which the title is an integral part of understanding the topic of the post.

Oh, I love that one.

No, no, this is the thread where I ask why we non-database keyholders can't easily see a list of all the items we've marked as FANTASTIC.

This is the thread where we complain....

Like all other threads.

As it was, so shall it be

It's the Thanksgiving thread where everyone personally thanks everyone who gave them a favorite the past year.

I thought the annual airing of the grievances wasn't until next month. But, then, I'm Canadian and maybe we do it differently.

I am eating lunch at a Thai joint right now where there is a precocious three-and-three-quarter-year-old named Arlo.

This is the thread
Beautiful friend

This is the thread
My only friend, the thread

Of our elaborate plans, the thread
Of everything that stands, the thread
No safety or surprise, the thread
I'll never look into your eyes...again

That song would work better if it was an ode to your friend who just happens to be called Fred.

I'm guessing threadwin is mostly useful for AskMefi. Sorting comments by favorites on the blue would make the page unreadable.

It works on the blue! (albeit in a non linear chronology way).

There was a old sort-by-favorites greasemonkey script for AxMe that's long since broken. I miss it, and would also support this pony with carrots and daily brushing.

Sorting comments by favourites would indeed break the thread continuity. Have you considered GraphFi for your favourite tracking needs?

You can get a sort of similar function on all three (AskMe, MeFi and MetaTalk) with the Metafilter Multifavorited Multiwidth greasemonkey script--it doesn't sort for you but it can visually draw your attention to the more favorited items in a thread. I use it with favorites turned off, and it sort of works a little like a simple favorites on/off toggle since I can enable and disable it from my greasemonkey icon in my browser address bar.

To fix it in Ask, edit the script - find the line

if (stuff[j].nodeName.toUpperCase()=="DIV" && stuff[j].getAttribute("class") == "comments") {

and replace it with

if (stuff[j].nodeName.toUpperCase()=="DIV" &&
(stuff[j].getAttribute("class") == "comments" ||
stuff[j].getAttribute("class") == "comments bestleft"||
stuff[j].getAttribute("class") == "comments best")) {

dunno about MeTa, might look later.

At this restaurant, can you get almost anything you want?

the agents of KAOS : that seems to do the trick for AskMe! Many thanks!

I think I might know that Arlo, really.
