Metafilter Statistics updated July 2, 2002 5:53 PM   Subscribe

Metafilter Statistics have finally been updated, and the top 20 charts are back. The big news here is that it looks like thread/comment traffic has slowly declined over the past few months, after a big spike in January. Also, the User Growth charts now show the number of new user signups per month, resulting in a cute graph (signups are on! signups are off!, signups are on!, etc). Now that I'm storing all the user/thread data in a database (instead of a flat file), expect these stats to be updated monthly again.

89 threads in one day? Sure, it was Sept. 13th and all, but lawd have mercy.

Nice work!

9622 is beginning to scare me. I think that thread is becoming it's own sentient being.

Excellent stuff, thanks!

This looks like a stegosaurus fallen flat on it's nose.

REALLY hope that's not an omen...

And there I was, all proud of my Neighborly Love thread pulling in a 150 comments with no additional input from me, and it doesn't even make the list.

Fascinating as usual, wp! Thanks.

Mmm... graphical representation of quantitative data... *drools*

I'm a sucker for charts. Thanks.

Nice. I never realized there was a bigger spike after Brill's than 9/11.

I just noticed that your top twenty most active days (by comments) is actually a top twenty most active days (by threads with most comments, irrespective of when the commenting occurred). Shouldn't it be instead a list of days with most comments that occurred on that date? Not asking for a pony, just curious. Thanks for the stats.

Grue: Sorry, impossible to do with my current data set. I'm not indexing each threads, so I can't get the timestamps for individual comments. (For the curious, I'm getting the thread lists from the archives.)

Good work!

Shame you can't get the number of bytes per thread from the archive pages. Last I looked 1142 was still ahead on that score.

I think that the declining comment trend will reverse itself now that ponchogaddo is here to make a comment about piss tests in every single thread.

Matt works in mysterious ways. The comments are disappearing at breakneck speed.

I can hardly wait until he makes his first comment, so that someone can tell him to "shut the fuck up".

Hey, why does this happen? I mean, there are some decent people in that list! ;)
posted by MiguelCardoso at 9:21 AM on July 3, 2002

Miguel, the search searches the whole user's entry – not just the nickname. All those decent people have the text string "fuck" somewhere on their user page.

Well I'm just glad I don't have that "text string fuck" thing, is all I can say. Good name for a band, though.
