The threads that never end... July 30, 2014 6:46 AM   Subscribe

Friends, I just wanted to point out something to you that you might not have been aware of, and that I was only reminded of a few hours ago, when I saw a reply to a comment in a thread here at Mefi. The reply, you see, was to a comment made SEVEN YEARS AGO. Yup. It's Metafilter Music, neighbors, where the threads never end. Never! Y'all stop in sometime, y'hear, and leave a comment! And don't worry if you're a little late to the party. At MeFiMu, the party never stops.

Oh, and listen to that tune. Then... listen to another at MeFiMu. And another. They're all posted by your fellow MeFites or Mefiers or whatever you wanna call 'em. And there's a lotta good sounds offered up for you there. Get with the whole internet music-wants-to-be-free thing and actually listen to some of 'em! Even though Pitchfork or whoever didn't um… point you to 'em!

There's one song I listen to at least once per year, and always mention how much I like it. As a result, I have been commenting in the thread for six years.

2007 wasn't seven years ago. That's crazy. It was like 2-3 years ago at most.

It's easier if you think of it as two to three chunks of two-to-three years ago. Less painful that way.

But in iPhone generations it's practically ancient history.

I keep coming back for this one, a great catchy summer tune.

I kind of wish blue threads didn't close too, because I finally finished this and it's the best thing ever and I want to talk about it but I understand why the mods don't want potentially contentious threads sitting open forever. Hopefully it will be on Fanfare books soon. :)

The awesome "It Was A Great Year (For Movies With Robots)" just came up in my shuffled playlist, so yeah, MeFiMu is pretty great.

Also, it's possible there are MeFites that have never heard this amazing [NSFW] track that celebrates it's 6th anniversary (!) on Friday. NSFW because lyrics and because you will be laughing and krumping so hard you will embarrass yourself.

Also, when you go to MeFiMu and stay there for a little while MetaTalk looks FREAKISHLY PALE when you click back to it.

Every time I hear “If I Had You” I think, “This isn't as good as miss lynnster's version!” I left a comment five years after it was published.

So you're saying that if you want to continue an argument started on the blue ad infinitum you should take it to MeFi Music?

Only if you argue in song...

this means that every year you can discuss the merits of the version of Jingle Bell Rock that only features the words Jingle, Bell and Rock. And jock ringle, I guess.

I like the open thread policy because I've been a MefiMu lurker since the inception and I get to keep commenting on the threads for the songs I've been listening to on my various scattered playlists for years.

Just posted in the oldest MeFiMu thread I could find. I am invincible!

One of the attendees at our recent Meetup (Maecenas?) said that their introduction to MetaFilter was through a link to that song. I love that idea.

So, basically, you're welcoming back your friends to the threads that never end?

Are you Emerson, Lake, or Palmer?

Jingle Rock Bell has been a family staple for years now.

MefiMu can make her first communion!

Mefimusic is awesome and I should spend more time there. Users are generally really supportive of each other and it is really cool that you can pick up a thread years later.

I love that MeFiMu is The Black. It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.

A few months before my daughter was born, I favorited a song that chococat wrote for his own daughter's fifth birthday. Five years and three months later, I got to play it for my own five-year old.

Thanks to this thread I found out about Protein Shoes and listened to it at work on loop for hours.

I spent a lot of time in MeMu after I joined the site in 2007 but then I got a job that barred me from the black and I stopped being able to browse, listen and comment at work - good for my career but terrible for my contribution. Now I work somewhere sane and have access again I shall commit to hitting random entries from the years I wasn't around and damn well comment that sh*t right up.

You were always on my mind, (MeMu) you were always on my mind.

I love Ziggler the performer, the character, the seller, everything, except his offense. Both he, and to some extent, Cody Rhodes (another masterful seller) to have pretty vanilla offenses with remarkably small move sets. Rhodes has greatly improved, but both guys seem to rely on dropkicks as mainstays of their arsenals, which is like saying a bar has beer. Everyone does dropkicks, or can. I'd love to see Ziggler take some time and really develop a solid offense to pair with how awesomely he sells being beaten down.

To some extent, I wonder if part of his position (mid-card jobber) and Heath Slater's is the same: they're just so good at selling being hit that people have decided it's more important for them to make other wrestlers look good (which definitely seems to be what's happening with Slater) than for them to win matches and get pushes. To some extent, I would worry that Seth Rollins might end up in that sort of pigeonhole, except that his offense is pretty well developed. I can see him ending up, though, as the upper card jobber, which would be a shame.

Cortex's fingerpickin' version of Laurie Anderson's O Superman is one that I keep coming back to. It's fun and pretty. If only he would have recorded it earlier, in time for the WHRB "Laurie Anderson Orgy" 2007.

If we are talking about songs that we always come back to, umbú, I submit your amazing cover of "Human Behavior" -- "Seres Humanos".
