Created a GM/TM userscript to display tags on main pages March 8, 2017 11:41 AM   Subscribe

I created a GreaseMonkey/TamperMonkey userscript to show post tags on main pages. Check the page out for a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

The script checks a page for multiple posts; it doesn't run on a page that doesn't contain something like that. I tested against (a) the various sub-tabs above and (b) both Chrome and Firefox.

(This doesn't work on podcast.metafilter or bestof.metafilter because Reasons™.)

In the distant future, I'll expand it a Whole Lot to add filtering based on tags, so that you too can hide posts containing the tag [whatever] from your pages.

Oh, for a perfect world where you can always tell what a post is about without looking at the tags.

zamboni: Yeah... I've basically been training myself to disregard the subject lines, because they're frequently clever interpretations of the content, and they throw me way off.

I like this a lot but it doesn't work for me in Classic or Plain. I switched over to Modern and it worked, so I don't think it's my browser, but it sure could be. This is one of those things I would not have thought I wanted or needed until seeing it.

Clinging to the Wreckage: I fixed it to work in Classic and Plain, and double-checked that I hadn't broken it in Modern/Modern Dark. Hooray!

This is a great idea! I've had TM off my work computer for a while, but this might inspire me to bring it back.

One thing that would be super cool in combination with the filtering idea (which you can already do with My MeFi to a large extent) would be to offer the ability to add your own tags to posts so that when users omit the tags that would filter out a given post (obituary posters, I'm looking in your directions), you could apply the tag yourself and then the post would disappear.

Rock Steady, you can tag posts made by a contact if that helps?
