Fanfare Feedback January 8, 2019 2:56 AM   Subscribe

So I've been exploring FanFare (it's great!) and I have just a few ponies.

Pony #1 When you click into threads, you can't get back to watercooler, myFanfare, whatever, very easily. Can we have the
[Recent Posts FanFare Talk Clubs Recent Comments Watercooler My FanFare]
mini menu available from threads- at the moment to see this mini-menu you have to click Home (from the [Home FAQ About Archives Tags Popular Random] menu) and then click back to the thing you wanted. My Fanfare is something I've discovered recently and it's quite nifty!

Pony #2 On the water cooler page, using the movie posters is awesome- but sometimes movie posters don't include the title on them. Is there room to display the title also?

Fanfare is pretty great and I thought a post celebrating it was due on MetaTalk.

Yeah, Fanfare is great. I was never really bothered about discussing TV/film on the internet before but I almost always find Mefites making interesting or funny comments about stuff I've watched.

I recall there has been a Fanfare re-vamp planned for quite a while?

I never see media when it's new, so I am very grateful that FaneFare threads stay open for a long time.

If there's revamping to be done, I would prefer to retain this feature!

Also I love it when someone posts on a fanfare thread that's like three years old, or even favorites older comments. Someone is still reading them!

On that note, the top of the movie, TV and podcast category pages have a handy "See All [Movies|...] link to the relevant section of the archives. Any chance of getting that on the category pages for books and special events, too? (Until last week I was convinced there was no way to browse through an alphabetical listing of all book posts, because there's no "See All Books" and I never noticed the Archives link on the menu bar.)

Thank you for making this post, because I have wanted Pony#1 for a long time and have just been too lazy to do anything about it.

It’s such a pretty pony...

I'm glad people like seeing old FF threads pop up, because I'm binge-watching my way through depression with MST3K. You've convinced me clutter your feeds with my cluttered thoughts about B movie riffing.

I love Fanfare. It's easily my most favorite subsite here. So much so, that I had to be really disciplined about reading show threads before bed, or I'd end up staying up too late.

I am late to a lot of movies (just watched Princess Bride for the first time last year) and the FanFare threads are great to read afterward. I know any comments I might make are not going to spark a whole new round of discussion, but I do like adding something to mark my time and to leave something for the next person who might also be a latebird. I also like it when someone else bumps a thread to the top of my Recent Activity. It's a great example of Metafilter as a living thing.

I would like to hitch my wagon to this pony!

If there is no poster available for an item in the watercooler or Recently Added lists, the link just shows unhelpfully as "poster." (That's the alt text of the image.) If using alt text on poster images, it should be unique. Adding the show title to the visible display wherever a poster is rendered would fix this and remove the need for the link hover title and possibly allow the alt attribute of the poster image to be empty.

Could the "+ My Fanfare" button be reworked to add new episodes to recent activity? I don't comment in every episode thread of shows I follow and usually add threads for shows I'm watching to recent activity, but I don't always remember. It would be nice for discussions of shows I'm watching to show up in recent activity automatically.

I know there is talk of Fanfare being redesigned, and I'm very excited to see what's coming. This has long been my pony. In fact, I think with the right redesign that emphasized ease of finding your niche of interest (and de-emphisising newest-first traditional MeFi post order), Fanfare could draw in new members to the site.

This is problematic if you're at all spoiler averse and not always watching episodes as soon as they air. It'd need to be setting, if it were a thing.
