My eyes rolled so hard... May 2, 2019 10:04 PM   Subscribe

I read this comment from oulipian on the Blue and did a quick web search for other "my eyes rolled so hard" moments on Metafilter. List within. Share your own!

I guess I shouldn't have read the article, because I got to the part where it says "...before landing at Nori, a company addressing climate change with blockchain" and my eyes rolled so hard they exceeded the annual energy consumption of several European countries

I hope this looks OK, because my eyes rolled so hard they fell out and I can't see what I'm typing.

My eyes rolled so quickly that they went back in time to yesterday and now everything I'm seeing is 24 hours out of sync, send help
- duffell (Yeah that's me, stop rolling your eyes)

I would have read the rest of the article, but my eyes rolled so hard at the first sentence that they fell right out of my sockets and rolled under the couch.

Ooh, I love these. I usually use "my eyes rolled so hard I gave myself a migraine" or "they fell out" or "they got stuck that way" and now I'm feeling creatively deficient. I'll have to step up my eyeroll game.

When I read the headline and preview of this post in my rss reader I thought you were calling out someone's comment for something shitty and that the mods were gonna "have a day" and I rolled my eyes so hard my ears farted.

Then I clicked and read and fully support this sort of behavior.

I watched Terminator Genisys over the weekend and after about 2 minutes of the time-line stuff, I just rolled my eyes and stopped caring.–Fizz

I like to say “If you find some eyeballs rolling around on the floor near you, let me know; mine fell out from rolling them too hard.”

I also use “I rolled my eyes so hard I now have vertigo.”

Pro tip: if you roll your eyes at precisely 23.976 revolutions per second, on video they appear to be perfectly still

I can put up with some bad writing in a mystery novel, but was defeated by the first book in the Frey and McGray series when I reached this sentence:

His eyes immediately fell on the violin case, like peas rolling to the bottom of a bowl.

Ever since then, I've noticed that characters who roll their eyes at each other is a sign that a book isn't going to be very good.

I tend to go with "full-body eye-roll," like "*insert full-body eye-roll here*" or "that was so stupid I just suffered from a full-body eye-roll"

I am positive that I have said some variation on "I rolled my eyes right out of my head and now they are under the couch help" on this very site.

I used to be on a board (what up, Kvetchers!) on which the eye-roll emoji had been misinterpreted so many times that we added the initialism SDER: self-directed eye-roll. It lives on in many of the friendships that started there!

I just went to the eye doctor and found out I have "lattice degeneration" from myopia which has a (slightly) increased risk of retinal detachment so now I am paranoid about rolling my eyes too much. Roll your un-stretched retinal nerves while ye may, Mefites.

*I'm mostly kidding there is no real evidence that moving your eyes too much affects the nerves.

I've never hit on an eye roll saying I liked in the heat of the moment.

Though, recently, I did use it like, "rolling my eyes to death". I liked that because it's saying I will damage your eyes from rolling them so much, but there's also a shadow of the reading that it will be fatal to me which I think is a nice emphasis.
