Covid Card Swap March 20, 2020 10:08 AM Subscribe
One of the Card Club members suggested a Covid-19 card swap event. I think this is a good idea, and wanted to bring it to the larger Mefi community to see what the interest level is.
This would be like the winter holiday or Valentine's Day card swaps, where people are assigned to small groups, and you send a card to the people within that group. As far as I know, there are no covid-specific greeting cards, so these would be pretty free-form -- postcards, "hang in there" cards, short messages of connection and encouragement, wishes for good health, etc. Thoughts/opinions?
Great idea! Thanks for putting this out there and organizing it when we all say yes!

That brings up a good point! I am happy to do the organizing/grouping/sending out assignments, but if anyone else needs a little project to take their minds off of all this, I'm also happy to step back and end my involvement here.

I would love this. I had knee-replacement surgery last Wednesday (before heavy restrictions really came to D.C.), and can't go outside.

I am still *coughs number of months into hand* *washes hands* very very very behind on my actual card swap cards. No time like this time to catch up!
But I also love the idea of a COVID postcard swap. You know, something you can pick up with tongs and read without any fuss. And also, when the hell else would I send this one?

Like- speaking as someone who does the maximum amount of cards every month because I am a masochist and lonely, If i get a card from several months prior my reaction isn't "how dare they!" Its "OOOOOH A CARD!" so in conclusion, deadlines are meaningless like life and boulders and lets just send more cards around.

I started to WFH this week plus I live alone, so I’m feeling a tad isolated. My high point each morning is the sound of the mail truck pulling up outside the fence that surrounds my house. The mail is dropped through a slot in the fence so I don’t even get to see the letter carrier (although I can see the top of his or her hat). I’ve been rushing outside to call Thank You over the fence, even though I know it’s mostly junk mail. So yes, please, count me in.

I haven't started this season, but unless something has drastically changed, this is very good.

Does anyone want to take the reins? Otherwise, this shouldn't be more than a few hours' worth of work max for 1 person, and I have time available, so I can.
I'll leave this up for someone to grab by this evening, and if no takers (to clarify: I've had offers to help which are super appreciated, and I'm trying to figure out how to divvy up the work in a way that makes sense), then I'll either ask the mods to modify this post or put up another one, and we'll get this card train rolling down the tracks.

Sounds great. I figure March card club people are likely reading here and wanted to throw out that my cards are arriving late because I was called in to do long days on some emergency work to support covid efforts but now my role is becoming less important and I will be able to catch up on cards and I will be working from home again (and lonely......)
