"Metafilter: quote"s logged anywhere?

You know when we extract part of a comment, and repeat it later, down-thread, preceded by "Metafilter: "? (A couple examples came up together in the Derecho thread.) Are these logged somewhere? Love to see the whole list.

I don't think there's a maintained archive of them anywhere, but it's something I've run a dump of a couple times over the years; I'll see if I can find any of those previous dumps, but I might still have the hacky perl code I wrote somewhere on the server, so if I can find that I'll do another dump.

What do we call them? Tagline!? Doesn't that mean something else, like byline?

Maybe they should be -- MetaFilters? Nah. Metafilter-isms? Even worse. Any other ideas?

Ages and ages ago I tried to start up a Metafilter XMPP chat server (I was working on chat servers and bots for another site and for work at the time so it was just an easy thing to do) but at the time Metafilter wasn't interested in having a chat server. That chat server had a bot that could regurgitate 'Metafilter: blah' lines from a database dump. I think you'll find that quite a few people have done the 'create a big list from a database dump' but probably nobody actually keeps up with the latest dump (if there is one). Such things are 10x easier if you can just make a query vs trying to rebuild from a sporadic dump or a live feed.


If I actually still had a VPS somewhere I might try again starting with a recent dump and then following RSS feeds or something. I forget what the dump looks like or what was involved. It should be much easier for frimble to just whip up a SQL query and toss it up in the labs page or something.
