MeFites for the Holidays November 16, 2024 7:04 AM   Subscribe

During the first Trump administration, we had MetaTalk threads to connect MeFites who had space at their holiday table with other MeFites who may not feel welcome at their family table or who had nowhere special to go. Given the recent election results, we should revive that tradition.

The process is the same as past years:

Potential hosts who would like to open their tables and/or beds should comment with their home cities and note what day(s)/holiday(s) they're opening their homes.

Potential guests should contact a host directly via MeMail or email to coordinate and work out any potential complications (food allergies and preferences, dishes offered, style of meal and topics that could be discussed that might cause discomfort or arguments) before exchanging contact information.

Now is also a good time to review your location, profile, and mail settings.

We're in Syracuse NY and can easily accommodate a couple of guests for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Both are likely to be fairly casual. Anything we prepare will be gluten-free.

I host a big pre-Thanksgiving potluck every year, usually 30-50 people on the Tuesday before. Always built around people that may not be able to get home or people who may not feel like going home for the holidays. This is the 23rd year (I think). Politics range from Left to Very Left. Always room for new friends and neighbors if you're in the general Chapel Hill/Carrboro area and are looking for a place to grab a bite. Dishes cover a variety of dietary restrictions. Note: there will be a few kids running around.

I was planning to spend this Thanksgiving on my own, but I am happy to have people join me. I have a 13lb turkey and was going to make very basic sides and watch season 1 of Person of Interest (since I was just reminded that it exists and I've never seen it.) (Also open to watching something else!)

I'm north of Boston, commuter rail accessible.

I do have two cats if that presents allergy issues.

Person of Interest was not without interest. If not the first AI police procedural, it one of the firstest. And the grainy overlay of drop-down readouts and boxes over subjects in in black and white distance shots in its its titles and cutaways spawned memes and imitations. Minority Report comes to mind, for example.

We are in Buffalo NY and planning a very chill brunch on Thanksgiving Day with a few friends. The house is very queer and neurodiverse, the food is very vegan. Local Mefites welcome - DM me or RhysPenbras for details.

I can't offer a home cooked meal as we're the guests of others.
But I'd buy you a pint or coffee, or share a meal if you're in:
--South India for Thanksgiving
--Edinburgh, Sheffield or Oxford UK before Xmas
--Egypt after Xmas and before the New Year
--South India after New Year

I posted a 12/25 Minneapolis/St Paul IRL Proposed Event. I’d love to hang out a bit with any of my fine fellow MeFites.
