Looking for a winamp plugin that gives recommendations March 4, 2003 12:08 PM   Subscribe

Sorry no link. In a discussion a couple of months ago there was mention of a winamp plugin that would recommend music based on the tracks that you were listening to. I can't find the thread that mentioned this or anything on google. Does anyone remember this? Can anyone post a link?

tell us, riffola... what arcane search phrase wisdom did you use to find such a thing?

I bet you he was one of the many people who signed up for the service, and remembered the name, if not even bookmarked the thread.

FWIW, I think audioscrobbler is great.

Or maybe he just, I don't know, I realize I'm going out on a limb here -- searched for "MP3" in the past month, like he said he did. I just tried that myself, and sure enough, the Audioscrobbler thread is the eighth result. This is not rocket science, kids.

I didn't sign up for it. I just searched for MP3, 'cause I couldn't remember the name, but I knew it was Audioscro-something.

Damn webmutant said it better.

Er that should be "Damn, webmutant said it better", I am not damning webmutant.

All webmutants have been damned to hell, and some of them even know it. :)

Incidentally, how many goddamn songs do you have to play to get Audioscrobbler to recommend something? I erased it after a week of it saying "listen to more music".

It's an evil plot by more music.

I was sitting here reading the threading, thinking "Hey, that sounds like an interesting idea!", and it took me a minute to realize that I had originally posted that. Man, I'm getting old.

I stuck with Audioscrobbler, and though it's having a hard time dealing with all the bandwidth it's generated, I still think it's a really neat and useful (because it's very simple) tool. Last time the site was up and running, it would start reccommending other users once you'd listened to 500 songs. I've already found three or four bands that I'd either never heard of or never seriously listened to before. Plus, it's kind of interesting to review your own listening habits and see what you actually listen to and how often. Interesting.
