Why is mefi black and white for me? Where's the blue? May 6, 2003 3:40 AM   Subscribe

So I found myself logged out, and I went and logged back in. The 'You're logged in now!' page was black on white, kinda lofi-stylee and so, after that, was the front page, and everywhere else that would normally be a reassuring #006699. [more]

Looks like this. Metatalk still looks the way it ought to.

I've logged out again, closed the browser, rebooted, deleted cookies and cached files, sacrificed a bunny to the server gods, danced naked in front of the screen (that last was more just for the fun of it) and anything else I could think of to fix it, but no joy. This is actually the second XP/IE6 machine on which this has happened to me, the other being at work, and I just left that one alone, since I couldn't be bothered to fiddle with it. Still black on white to this day. I'm guessing it's some kinda stylesheet wonkiness, but you'd figure that deleting everything out of my cache would've fixed that...

Mozilla looks fine. I know, I should just shut up and use Mozilla, but it loads way too slow on my old 'puter.

Administrator, please hope me! Any ideas?

I'm not admin, but I can hope you if you want...

Never mind. I'm an idiot. I didn't actually realize there was a 'plain text theme' on the customize page these days. I guess it defaults to that when it can't find a cookie...

Feel free to use this opportunity to make merciless fun of me.

No joy? No joy? How sad that you had such a golden opportunity, being naked and all, to have some joy...just you, scrawny chicken body and all, and the computer, havin' some joy together.

*shakes head, sadly*

If you are naked and experiencing joy in front of your computer then you should probably be fapping over on fark. ;)

I feel sorry for a naked chicken... he's really plucked.

...eh. that's nothing; I changed my time zone setting, then realized I didn't really want to know when everybody was posting in my time zone because, really why? But now I can't get it to change back. . . plus, I didn't even change it to my time zone successfully; so I'm reading everyone's posts as if they were posted in Moscow time. Na zdorovje!

the login script detects IQ which exceeds the median ranges and presents a package of baffling, apparently contradictory information, then sits back and laughs at the smart guy trying to get a handle on life. but you and i already knew this. :-)

That's happened to me every now and then; hitting "Refresh" usually makes it go away.

That, and sending Mr. Haughey a wire transfer for several hundred thousand dollars, care of his bank in the Cayman Islands.

You did it wrong, start out feeling Mary, then go down to the gas station and pump Ethel, and THEN jump for Joy. Old puns never die, they just get older.

Exact same thing happened to me, Herr Wunderhuhn (except for the nekkid dancing part). That plain text option is easy to miss.

me: What would you do if I stripped naked & danced in front of the computer right now?

g/f: I could cope with it.

So there you go...

OK, fess up time: How many of you people have the MeFi blue as your desktop background colour?

/considering it.

Hopefully Matt doesn't mind, but here's a rather boring Metafilter desktop wallpaper I made a while back [1024x768, 34k], which might go well with Space Coyote's and dg's new background colours.

My way of apologizing for being an idiot.

Very nice - minimal and understated. Before, you were just an idiot. But now - you're an idiot who makes nice desktop wallpaper! Thanks, stavros ;)

No need to apologise for being an idiot stavros - you are at MeFi, after all.
