suspicions of transfered username June 11, 2003 2:17 PM   Subscribe

I have my suspicious that a recently more prolific username is being used by someone other than the original registrant. Are we even concerned about people giving or possibly selling thier usernames?

I ask because not only because of the limited registration policy, but because the username in question has become quite a troll. I know there are many good people who would love accounts, and there are even members who have been campaigning to get these people accounts.

It's would be hard to police this, but it bothers me to see trolls slip into our midst like this while others are left in the cold.

Give us a hint.

Seriously, just email matt about it, unless you want a public debate, in which case, let everyone know what you're talking about & point out examples. This half way tease is lame.

Well I have no hard proof, and I was going to keep an eye out in the mean time. However, if we don't care, then we don't care and it's a waste of my time. So is it an issue to present day Mefites, or is it just the way things are?

It's that Darren guy, isn't it? I thought there was something different about him lately!

It is an issue if someone really sold their account. I was recently half-accused of being a viral marketer, and it was pretty stupid. I'm glad that the person did it publicly and it was over with rather than fomenting some secret TFH society devoted to tracking my posts.

Honestly, I don't even believe that the account was sold. To me it just looks like a father/older brother passed on their old barely used account. I know that changing ownership on accounts is not encouraged, but it doesn't seem to be strictly forbidden either.

I guess posting to MetaTalk was the wrong approach to answering my question. I was just hoping to hear from Matt. I did it publicly because I thought others might be intrested in the answer. I just hope this gets deleted or moves of the page quickly so I can avoid further embarassment

We all want to know, we live as trolls under freeway-over- passes at night; then come here to post during the day light hours so all the hard workers have a night full of the web to keep inside til dawn.

Exactly, jtm. Even though I was really really unintrested in starting a thread about him. I was just intrested if anyone cred.

As I recall, JTM's account is close to mine (numerically). I wonder what he got for it? I could use some cash and I mostly lurk these days...
