Neat idea. How 'bout a link for it, Matt? Yeah, I could go into the archives, but I think it'd be neat to click somewhere on the front page and go to the MeFi front page from exactly a year ago. Of course, I don't quite know where you'd put the link. It sometimes seems too cluttered up there already. Maybe it would be good for an occasional "Classic MeFi Thread" anniversary. Anyway, just a thought.

I always liked the "100 Years Ago in Scientific American" feature in, uh, Scientific American. Sort of like that? Neat idea.

(going further off topic)
I've been waiting for May 30th to roll around for jbushnell or someone else (like myself) to present the Second MeFi Shiny Thing Giveaway. Is there anyone else interested in kicking a few bucks/loonies/quid/rand/lira/pesos/clams into a pot?

Echoing rodii, I think it would be very cool to feature a particular link or thread from one-year, two-years, five-years ago (once we get that far!) every once in a while. But something particular picked out by either Matt or some other trusted member would be more interesting (and more highly viewed) than just a static link that goes to "This Date One Year Ago."
The bigger question is... if we're encouraging looking back at old threads, that will most likely encourage at least a few people to attempt to post comments to those threads. Is there value in that? Or perhaps rather is there value in preventing that?

Avogadro, you ought to set up one of those Amazon "Give me money" things that seem to be so popular lately. I'm sure fellow MeFi-ers (at least, those who aren't poor college students such as myself) would be more than willing to cough up a few bucks for another contest like that one. I was still in lurker mode when the original thread came around, but this year I'm determined to win :)
