No need for this as the WaPo article was linked in the actual thread a few days ago.
Not a call out or smack down, just a minor admin detail.

Well maybe just a little smackdown because no-one is going to argue that this isn't a double post wearing a diguise as poor as Pistachio Disguisey. And do I get my belly scratched and a treat for putting my comment in the right thread?

and now that you've brought this little administrative matter to our attention, precisely how do you propose we proceed to ignore it?

Make sure you call that in MeTalk so everyone can read it, ana. Oh, and we may want to discuss it as well! ;-P

It's a good point, though, because, as we've mentioned before, it seems like interest in most posts disappears within hours. One can understand the urge to post something as a new topic when it is really an update of an old post. For example, how many of you read on the old thread that the sex change/snogger show has been dropped?

When it comes to posting on the front page, or to MeTa, "urges" should be suppressed. The oft given advice to wait a day before posting to the front page should also apply to MeTa. All other urges should be engaged posthaste.

I call a one week moratorium on new MeTa posts.
I second the motion.

how many of you read on the old thread that the sex change/snogger show has been dropped?
Or, how many read it elsewhere on the Internet plenty of times, as I did, and assumed, without even checking back on the original thread, that someone would have mentioned this update in the thread? Although this has some political overtones - Steve wants to make sure we get that Fox is A-OK and Groening's a whiner, and some of us believe the converse and think Steve is being boorish - but the base issue is the same: Updates to threads should go in the threads themselves, at least until the thread is closed to comments.

All in favor?
I'd say 'aye', but I've sworn not to post anything to MeTa for at least a week.

The easiest way to avoid new MeTa posts is to stop coming to MeTa - it's free, easy, and instantly effective.

Unfortunately, this isn't a democracy. It's chaos lorded over by a fickle (though friendly) ruler. Metatalk wouldn't know Robert's Rules of Order if it bit it on the ass.

Hmmmm.
Well, firstly I should make it clear that I have nothing against S@L at all. All I wanted to do was quietly & nicely point out a minor thing. [I'm guessing that his prefs are set so that he doesn't get too many days in the front page so the original FPP had disappered.]
Secondly, I don't think that posting to MeTa is inherrently bad, but maybe a bit less of the 'Huh, what a dumbass, read the rules you jerk' would help. Which is why I tried to post as pleasantly as I could.
I don't expect us all to start flitting 'round a la English period drama ['Why I do believe you have made a post to the wrong position Mr Linnwood', 'My, my, so one has Mr _cola. I am such a silly!] but a li'l less winding up the crank may help. The grey is here to help the blue so let it do its job properly.
quonsar: I'm sure your reputed collection of 19th century 'What the Butler Saw' machines could distract you ;-)

Fine with me, as long as we precede the moratorium with a post so ludicrous and/or offensive we can spend an entire week lashing it and each other with rotten seaweed.
Hey, matteo, toss me one of those fries, willya?

um, whats with the knee jerk reaction to metatalk posts? i_cola made a good point and steve should've followed meech's example. if you don't agree, just say why.
