Can I post a link to a question on Ask to the blue? October 15, 2004 2:15 PM   Subscribe

Can I post a link to a question on Ask to the blue? It's not my question, so it's not self-linking, but it feels a bit too.... uh, meta.

If you back it up with related links, for sure. I'm fairly certain that that's even been done before.

If not, it's a little too self-referential. You're saying the thread/discussion deserves a link as content all of its own merits?

Yes.

No.

Maybe.

You can, but you'll be called out in the Grey.

Seriously, no. If all you did was link to an askme question, I would not hesitate to suggest it would be in the bottom .1% of all attempted posts ever.

Why not discuss it here? Metatalk discussions of outstanding (for one reason or another) AskMe threads are not at all unusual.

I second the vote for here. This is where the meta belongs, no?

I'm saying no, because if the people who read the blue want to read the green, there's nothing stopping them from doing so.

Mixing the levels of "meta" together like that makes the Baby Jesus cry.

Yes, post the link to the green on the blue.

Then wait for someone post a link to that post here on the grey.

Then link to that (grey) post on the green, with the question "is this just too meta"?

And repeat.

Except, maybe, the fact that it's completely unpublicized on the front page. I don't remember how I stumbled upon AskMetafilter, but it was pretty late in the game. That said, I agree: no.

If you're talking about an FPP, I'd say no. If you just want to link to a question from within the comments, I say sure. It's been done many times already.

i think you need to to specifiy a little. or else, no one, including myself, will have no fucking idea what you're talking about. thats a good way to avoid the "if/else" posts

If it's "The Best of the Web", by all means post it to the blue. I don't recall seeing a post in the green I would categorise as such though. (The green as a whole on the other hand might be, but that is a bit too meta)

So what the hell is the question you want to link to? You might as well tell us at this point.

Do it. let the naysayers and the assholes be damned.

Can I post metafilter.com to the blue? Some people might not know about it, and it's a great site!

It's not "meta," it's redundant.
