"Thanks" is not a question October 16, 2004 11:16 AM Subscribe
ThanksAskMe: Can we just assume we're all thankful for the bounties of AskMe, without posting there to that effect?
To answer your question in a word, no. Geez, how mean-spirited can you get?

I'm going to post that to the blue. Someone had to do it and we all need to be thanked.

It does seem kind of cranky to say it, but luser's point is a good one. "Thank you" is not a question; it's a comment about Ask Metafilter itself, and thus should have been posted here in MetaTalk.

Grasshopper, let me help you find better things to complain about. They are everywhere. First, don't complain about something essentially positive and good-spirited. Second, don't complain about something that happens once every 8,000 threads. Third, don't offer a universal assumption of goodwill as an alternative to... well, anything around here.
Focus on the sound of one hand fapping.
Breathe.
A tree falls in the middle of the forest. A bear nearby takes a shit.
You must unlearn what you have learned.
Now find something to complain about that happens often and is essentially divisive, obstructionist, egotistical, or otherwise mean-spirited. Remember that a complaint in the Grey is not completely free. It generates at least a tiny bit of negativity, no matter how valid it is. So choose your targets carefully, and try to make sure they're worth bitching about. This one? Not so much.
When you can walk across this rice paper - and leave no trace - I will be sure to lay it near the edge of a cliff.

I think we need a whole new color--the pink?--for all the questions about what belongs in the Green, the Gray, and the Blue.

If there should ever be a fourth Mefi site, pink would be a very unfortunate choice for the color.

I think the whole new colour should be white.

Metatalk comments should be allowed at the rate of only one per every 24 hours and no more. Not one per post but one comment per day period.

Mmm, lectured to by the Metatalk crowd for excessive complaining, nitpicking and meanspiritedness. It doesn't get any better than that.
Oh, wait, quonsar called me neurotic. Delicious!

I don't agree with the wording but I agree with the point. Questions disappear off the green fast enough as it is. Non-questions don't help that situation. Yes, the person was being polite (I leave thanks in the bottom of each of my green threads), but if every person who asked a question posted a follow up thanks we'd be screwed. (And yes, I know it's the first time, but letting it go will make it hard to stop in the future.)

Crikey!
er, I dunno if this makes it any more "right" or "wrong" – but not only was it a thankyou, but it was also to let everyone know what I was talking about.
There were heaps of much-appreciated suggestions on that thread – every single one not what I wanted. I know how much I like closure, so I thought I'd try and spread the joy.
Point taken, however. I will never do it again.
(everything's been deleted and I only noticed this thread by a fluke just then but I'm guessing you're talking 'bout me?)

And I notice the thread next to my deleted thread is titled:
Where should I go for my birthday?
Jee. Zuss. Christ.
