... not that I personally care. three sections keep me busy enough, along with all the other stuff I read

I really and truly don't know what purpose this thread has other than to say "hey matt, we're impatiently waiting for you to get off your lazy ass and make our site better".

Well, that about sums it up... I don't think I was the only person wondering, so I made the thread. If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else.

I already know what it is. GothMetaFilter: Bela Lugosi's STILL dead

Of course, many folks will complain about the red Times New Roman font on a solid black background, but hey, who cares?

right. but then we'd be bitching at that person for being impatient. so deal.

How about instead of bitching about it because we know Matt's a busy guy who would have gotten it done if he could have, how about instead of bitching, what's the new *Filter gonna be?

I'm not sure why you're misconstruing this as "moaning." I'm just curious.

kyle, matt says a lot of things. Unlike me, he also does a lot of things. Between the saying and the doing, I'm guessing, lie other demands on his time.

Your post smacks of sleeve-tugging and jumping up and down. Maybe you need to use potty?

What is with people here not understanding the difference between singular and plural? Kyle is one person.

Oh. Was this supposed to be some conciliatory note?

I don't think I was the only person wondering, so I made the thread. If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else.

Huh. Sounded to me like you were damn proud of your sleeve tugging ways.

This whole thread smacks of n00b farts.

well, matt has a long established record of underestimating the time this or that will require, and i don't mean that maliciously. he has a full time job and a family. when he says things like that, it's because he really loves his site and users and has these visions and ideas and this enthusiasm for it and real life has different ideas about how he has to spend his time. while the entire mass of suggestions and ponies may never get fully implemented, the most important and desired usually do. sometimes if he says "this weekend" it turns out to be "any weekend now". patience, grasshoppers. like sand through the hourglass of time, these are the fish in my pants.

It'll be announcefilter, which I didn't get a chance to launch this weekend due to some pretty bad personal news. Next week is thanksgiving, and I'll be traveling to see family for that, so probably the week after at the latest.

posted by scarabic at 12:05 PM on November 22, 2004

Oh, and quonsar is exactly right. I expected to have nothing going on this weekend, but that quickly turned into a nail biter of stress. I've spent half this day in a hospital, but will be back home shortly. I did remove ads for all logged in users last night and launch the contest, so something came out of this weekend.

Matt, I am sorry about whatever is going on in your life that involves hospitals and bad news. Good thoughts heading your way.

That's right, the ads ARE gone.. I hadn't even noticed. You're like a little elf doing good things behind the scenes sometimes. I should leave a plate of Milk and cookies out for you more often.

Good luck with the personal issues.

And I hope whatever put you in the hospital clears up quickly.

Dear Mathowie,

You do some good work. Hope things are going better.

What is with people here not understanding the difference between singular and plural?

"They" is and has been for centuries a convenient and much-needed gender-neutral singular pronoun in addition to its plural use. Deal with it.

Matt: Sorry about the family problems; I hope they're resolved soon and happily. Pay no attention to the sleeve-tugging -- we know you get to stuff when you are able to, like quonsar said, minus the fish.
posted by languagehat at 3:09 PM on November 22, 2004

Can we start snarking on kyle again, this time for overusing *filter? That was much more fun!

(Also, I hope all works out OK with the hospital stuff, Matt.)

AnnounceFilter is akward, too long, doesn't really concatenate nicely into a single cognitive conceptual and linguistic unit the way "Metafilter" and "Metatalk" do, and also isn't really a filter at all. How about instead MetAnounce? or MetaEvent? or something where you combine the 'a' and the 'e' into one character, like Metævent or MetÆvent or Met§vent (with the 'a' and 'e' transposed on top of one another, rather than simply squashed together)? Anyway, the point is that all the sub-sites use "Me" in their name (MeFi, MeTa, AskMe) while not all of them use "Filter;" the new sub-site should follow suit. Just a thought.
