We passed the 20,000 user mark today, according to the count on the front page.
The highest user number is not the same thing as the number of users. There are gaps in the user numbers.

There's nothing like 20,000 active users, timeistight, something of which I'd thought you'd have been aware. Not even close. This has been discussed ad nauseum before.

How many "active users" do you think there are? Say, defined as people who've commented more than three times in the last six months? I'd guess no more than 2,000 and probably considerably less.

stavros, where did I say there were 20,000 currently active users? There are, however, over 20,000 valid user accounts.
A lot of the new five-dollarpeopleaccounts haven't posted anything. I don't know if you'd call them "active" users or not.

In defense of us "new five dollar people," I would imagine we are more active than a guy who registered in 2000 but stopped reading once all those n00bs ruined it for him back in aught two...
I kid. There should be no us v. them - this is a community. Let's devote our time to snickering at other communities...
Congrats to user #20,000.

Ah. Perhaps I was trying to figure out why this is a big deal and got confused. Even more likely, I just forgot to disengage the autosnark. Damn sticky button.

So that's about 15 thousand bucks in #1's pockets from five dollar users? Cool.
