Username links go to threads instead January 28, 2005 10:10 AM   Subscribe

When I click on the username in this archived MeFi thread I am taken to an old post with the same number as the user, i.e. the url says 'mefi' instead of 'user'. Only true for the original post, not for comments.

Grr, forgot the link to the thread!

Yeah, it's an old bug that I fixed, but there are a few thousand old threads saved with the bad old code. I don't really have the heart to wipe out 35k flat files and regenerate them all to fix it, figuring when I get the redesign in place, I'll have to do it anyway.

Is heart really what's required? I would have guessed good backups, a rollback in place, and some confidence in the regen process. Plus a wee bit of low-time on the server.

I mean, uh, are we still all flying by the seat of our pants, here, operating on the understanding that the last 5 years of everything we've done here could disappear at the next flat file regen?

Welcome to MetaFilter, where bugs live as long as features. It's a jungle in here.
