Is it ok to post followups in threads? February 8, 2005 7:43 PM   Subscribe

Honest, innocent question: Is this o.k.?

I've often wanted to post a follow-up post to an issue that had slipped off the main page. Is this an okay way to do it? I always kind of assumed it was frowned upon, but have no actual evidence.

By the way, this is not a call-out. I'd really like to know.

I think all the comments are fine given it's a dicussion about gay cartoon characters.

:(

Posting a singular comment in off-main page thread generally seems o.k., if it's necessary to mention a new development or to respond to something that you hadn't noticed before.

Posting the same comment in multiple threads, though, is frowned upon (imho) no matter if they are on or off the main page.

This could go badly if folks reposted comments all the time, but this is the first time I've seen it and those were all about the same subject, so it's probably ok.

My intention of posting the same comment (and link) to four previous threads was to update the separate discussions that each dealt with "gay cartoon characters".

My assumption was/is that if some folks were/are monitoring any single previous discussion (and not the others) - they might miss mention that the trend of "outing" cartoon characters as being gay continues ... first SpongeBob (two week ago), now the Flintstones (this week).

As well, I assumed that by re-posting the same comment to the four separate threads it would ensure that the "new post" would be accessible in the archive of like-minded discussions here on MeFi.

It's fine--i always post updates. it's just that usually there's only one thread about things, and not multiple ones.

Are we ever getting UpdateMe? (for threads older than 30 days)
