If this isn't an offense worthy of banishment, it should be.

Website linked is a Double Post, AND loads a m2u playlist when loaded.
posted by Steve_at_Linnwood at 3:55 PM on March 6, 2005

My favorite (and perhaps a first?): The first post was ALSO by the same poster.
posted by availablelight at 3:58 PM on March 6, 2005

Yes, it wasn't just a double post, it was the same post from the same person. Obviously trying to drive traffic to the site.
posted by Justinian at 3:59 PM on March 6, 2005

Yep, this looks like a banhammer offence.
posted by Salmonberry at 3:59 PM on March 6, 2005

Ban the fucker.
Also, Steve, would it be too much to ask you to warn people next time?
posted by c13 at 4:03 PM on March 6, 2005

I would find anything less than an IP ban to be Kriminal.
posted by Arch Stanton at 4:03 PM on March 6, 2005

Arch, that makes me cry.

Not good cry. Bad cry.

you are joking, right? steve did all the right things - no sensible member would be clicking the link without first seeing dissenting comments in the thread first, especially if they came via this meta thread. This thread is the warning.

posted by scarabic at 4:53 PM on March 6, 2005

Ban 'em. Two times...gimme a break.

on preview: he posted it twice scarabic. He's either pushing traffic to the site or he's retarded.
posted by rooftop secrets at 5:01 PM on March 6, 2005

Looking at that post, I'd dare say the first time qualifies as evil. The second time... No, making that joke a second time would be kriminal enough.

don't shoot!

That wouldn't have happened if you'd been wearing your hard-hat, tweak. I'm just sayin'.

So why hasn't anybody said that it's more than a bannable offense, it's a Kriminal offense?

Comic delivery: sometimes you have to go pick it up yourself...

Arch Stanton writes "I would find anything less than an IP ban to be Kriminal."

Saydur writes "No, making that joke a second time would be kriminal enough."

wendell writes "So why hasn't anybody said that it's more than a bannable offense, it's a Kriminal offense?"

You really wanted to say that didn't you wendell? Spare us all. and now commence with the torrent of 'kriminal' jokes everyone...

Since when do we ban people for being dumb? I thought they had to be evil.

Exactly how much more evil can he/she be? A double post by the same person trying to drive traffic to their site while at the same time the site automatically downloads crap to your computer is the definition of evil.
posted by justgary at 5:41 PM on March 6, 2005

He's either pushing traffic to the site or he's retarded.

Well, which is it? Perhaps I'm more pessimistic than some about people's intelligence, but I think it's quite possible this person is just a complete knob clutched in the throes of ignorance and posted it twice out of abject stupidity.

In the past, when I've seen Matt ban people for promoting their own sites, etc, he's usually been able to dig up a link or something to "prove" malfeasance. Anybody got one in this case? Is it his site/band?
posted by scarabic at 5:49 PM on March 6, 2005

Damn it, with that build up, urgency and stridentness I was hoping I would be exposed to anus. Can we get a "Not anus!" tag?
posted by loquacious at 6:02 PM on March 6, 2005

rooftop secrets whined "You really wanted to say that didn't you wendell? Spare us all.

It's a dirty job, but somebody had to say it. Yes, others had made "Kriminal" references before me, but somehow they had failed to conntect the "Kriminal" and Steve@'s original post mentioning "offense". I could not in all good conscience leave those two words unconnected.

Just my little contribution to making MetaTalk a truly painful experience for everyone.
posted by wendell at 6:08 PM on March 6, 2005

I don't understand you at all. Are you claiming that Kriminalz is NOT the self-proclaimed best band of all time? Because I think I saw a statistic on a .edu site confirming that just the other day, and they don't lie.

Maybe he forgot he posted it the first time. Yeah, right, S@L, like you remember where you left your umbrella all the time. I don't even remember. Where you left your umbrella, that is.

Ban this guy? Dude, you guys are so harsh. When you get old like asbates2, I hope YOU have memory problems and like bad German comedy-rap too. That'll teach you.

That is all.

posted by scarabic at 8:20 PM on March 6, 2005

Just curious, Steve, assuming you used the flag, why did you also post to MeTa? Not giving you a hard time, just trying to sort out for myself the usefulness of the flag feature.

Also, rooftop secrets, that Firefox extension's yellow "writes" get really redundant and distracting when used multiple times in one post in a short thread.
posted by mediareport at 11:02 PM on March 6, 2005

seriously, what's a m2u playlist?

(oh, and I'm in favor of banning the user on general principle anyway)
posted by matteo at 12:25 AM on March 7, 2005

*scratches head.* Well that was kind of freaky. I'm really wondering if he forgot that he posted it. Unlikely, I know... but I'm not seeing the kind of comment spam I was expecting when doing a google search for pages that link to kriminalz.com. Seems like a spammer would exert a little more energy than this.

I know that I sometimes can't remember if I've posted a link or not. Of course, I've posted a lot more than two links....

Note that not only is this his second post regarding the ban, it's his second FPP overall.
posted by Saydur at 2:08 AM on March 7, 2005

band, that is. Spell check, why hast thou forsaken me?
posted by Saydur at 2:09 AM on March 7, 2005

I think the jokes above involving the band's name (which I shall not mention) should at least be a timeout offense. Dear god, wendell. Make the madness stop.

If band doubleposts are kriminalized, only Kriminalz would have band doubleposts.

You're right, it's not nearly as funny as one would hope.

why did you also post to MeTa?

There was no option to flag the thread "Links to website that loads crap on your computer with out asking."

seriously, what's a m2u playlist?

Sorry, that should have been "m3u" and it is an Internet Audio Playlist. The website automatically downloaded it with out asking, and that forces the launch of iTunes, Winamp, or what ever you default audio player is, and starts to stream really bad music off their website.
posted by Steve_at_Linnwood at 12:08 PM on March 7, 2005

graventy pleaded "Dear god, wendell. Make the madness stop."

Hey, I've been making less madness lately than I used to (and wearing MY hardhat at all times), and please don't call me god... or dear... or shirley... or unter. And besides, this train always makes the madness stop, and the snark stop, and the double dork stop, and usually on time... unless it derails, in which case it makes those stops 20 minutes early. It may be "m2u", but it's pg-13 to me. STEEEEVE AT LINNWOOOOOD!!! How dare you say it's default of my audio player! Flag down on the post! 15 yards for excessive exhuberance! So, does the absence of a "He's banned" from Matt mean this post *wasn't* a banishing offense? It might be good to get a little clarity on this one.
posted by mediareport at 7:58 PM on March 7, 2005

Tres weird... asbates2 only two FFP's lead to the same exact (evil) link? How much of a scatterbrain do you have to be to do that?

....While we're on the subject of "driving traffic" I'm curious, is it just me or has there been a bunch of pepsi blue type viral films posted lately? Is that good, bad, indifferent, or does it depend on the film? In short, when is posting an obvious ad "cool"? Example #1, #2,#3 (all in the same day, no less)
posted by dabitch at 6:41 AM on March 8, 2005

I'm not saying that any of those films were bad mind you.. I'm just wondering since I tend to know a lot of viral ads the day they're released but I never posted it on Metafilter...
