One hopes the traffic spike due to the self-linkage will be driven downward with the Banhammer.

Wait... I must be missig something, what's the connection? Similar initials? How are you guys figuring LMB and La Shawn are the same?

aaah, LMB removed their link back home from their profile after posting huh?

dabitch,

Same initials, and her posting history all points back there
posted by slapshot57 at 11:51 AM on March 28, 2005

drum roll.

Yeah I wondered about the sans info on LMB's profile page. Hearing that there WAS some info makes you realize that they actually knew they where breaking the rules. $5 of ridicule.

Yeah, this is classic:

I don’t know how I get myself into these thing. I think I get it. It’s not that I posted the link; it’s my point of view that’s the problem. Lesson learned. - Admin

What a pinhead.

At the risk of repeating myself, remember that link whoring I mentioned?

Honestly, I've been waiting for this to happen, and considering the flagrant nature of the offense, I strongly urge a perma-ban. Besides that way I can go to LaShawn's site and listen to her cries of how she's being repressed.

Before everybody rushes to ban her, take a second to consider that she's one of David Limbaugh's favorite bloggers in the universe. David Limbaugh, for God's sake!

I'm not saying "don't". I'm just saying "let's be sure about this".

But if you ban her who will protect us from the Mexicans?

America: Too many Mexicans, not enough people who are terrified of Mexicans.

I impaled the roof of my mouth on a shard of taco chip the other day, I sure do wish that the Minuteman Project (try thinking about baseball) had been there to slap that chip out of my hand and give me twenty minutes of talking points on why I should get off the welfare and love my white brothers.

Now alas I am miscegenating, welfare queening and getting fat off the tax dollars of patriots (and off of Schlitz Malt Liquor) and I've got a great big corn chip laceration on the roof of my mouth.

uh oh, now she's oppressed, it was deleted off of the main page.

but seriously, I don't think she should be banned. This was her first actual thread and she may have not been aware to the rules. I say let her off with the mocking she got today.

Hell, she might even come back tomorrow with a thread that doesn't reference her site.

Armitage beats me to it. I laughed a lot when I realized all messages in italic from "Admin" were her responses to whatever was there. Instead of deleting the offending comments into oblivion she leaves the space there and answers! It is almost poetic, like talking to the wind or writing in the sand, answering to vanishing comments.
posted by nkyad at 12:17 PM on March 28, 2005

Kinda interesting that calling out a self-link thread on metatalk gets it deleted, but ironically preserves the links to the deleted thread (allowing still more to see it and giving it more exposure than it would have if simply deleted).

Except that right above the spot where you put in the text of your post it says:

Note: You read the guidelines, right? Because linking to your own site in this space will result in a deletion and your account will be banned.

You just can't miss it.

slapshot57 writes, "but seriously, I don't think she should be banned. This was her first actual thread and she may have not been aware to the rules. I say let her off with the mocking she got today."

And then we won't have to risk feeling the wrath of David Limbaugh. I don't think it's wise to mess with a guy who's read blogs from other planets and stars. I just don't.

And just one out-of-meta comment, if I may (I think I may not, but anyway I'll risk spock's ire): I wonder if, after getting rid of all illegal aliens the brave Minutemen will turn around north and start harvesting the fields, washing and ironing the clothes and babysitting the children they will leave unattended.

Just as she gets a little shiver of pleasure whenever a person risks their life to cross the border to work at a shit job no one else wants for almost no pay and gets caught at the border and turned back to try again, we get to get a little shiver of pleasure when she gets kicked in the crotch by her own inability to follow simple, clear rules.

Seems fair to me.

I suspect she finds it hard to exhale without referencing her site. That ridiculous blogroll alone just screams please please please link to me please please. Pinhead and attention whore.

Ok, it was all worth it just to read this comment from her site:

"Secondly, most of the Minutemen probably aren’t looking to have the media even notice them, much less generate a “media circus". I’m pretty sure their intentions are to do what they can’t to slow the flow of illegal immigration. Some people do in fact mean what they say, Mr. Conspiracy Theory."

Will you be including the name LaShawn Barber as well as the words "pinhead and attention whore"?

Nope, it's no longer linked from the RSS feed (with 10k + readers) or front page, and only available here. MetaTalk only gets about 1/10th the traffic of MetaFilter. So I would argue it is not getting more exposure, but less.

Barber's advice to other people who post to her comments:

"you’re new to the blog, obviously, so let me give you one and only warning. This is my blog, not a court of law. I blog. That’s what I do. If you think I’m involved in an “unqualified guessing game,” we eagerly await your enlightenment. But I don’t like snide remarks directed toward me by commenters. If you’re as clever as you think you are, you’ll find another, much subtler way to get your jabs in, that is, if you want to remain on the board. If not, Adios."

She blogs, it's what she does.

Also:

Metafilter: It blogs, it's what it does.

Ok, the account has been dealt with. I think the attempts at google bombing phrases are silly and am closing this off.
