Something's odd with my question thread. Here's what the bottom of the page looks like in Safari and Firefox. I reset Safari and I'm still getting the same thing.
yea, definitely screwy. I use firefox and I was about to come here posting the same exact problem.
And I would expect nothing less than a snide remark towards Matt from certain users, so eh.

Would it be worth adding a "Technical Problem" option to the flag drop-down menu for problems like these?

I fixed it. When someone uses one single quote mark in HTML along with two double quotes (entirely malformed HTML), it breaks the function to fix bad code. It's a long shot that I've only seen happen twice now in six years, so I don't think there's any rush to plunge into the code to fix this edge case right now.

last week it was REMOVING the first double quote, leaving the final double quote. i suspect this was because firefox was breaking the long string at <a href=" (rather than at the first space, after <a) and moving the rest to a new line.
