Open Gaming Thread: What are you playing right now?

Let's talk video-games, board-games, mobile games, mind-games, etc. What are you playing right now? :-)

Your media of 2022

What did you play this year? What did you watch? What did you read? None of it has to be the greatest ever, or even anything that came out in 2022, I'd just like to hear about what you spent time with and what it meant to you.

Metatalktail Hour: SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?

💻 How about this?: Glance at your surroundings, and jot down 5 things you see around you. The next commenter spins a story, or a poem, or a joke, or a narration, or a news item or a screenplay or a help-wanted ad or a user manual or homework essay or video game concept or award acceptance speech or PhD thesis about / using those things, or uses them to describe what's happening in their own life. Let's play a MetaFilter search game

The rules are simple:
1. Think of something—a notable person, tech product, cultural phenomenon, et cetera—that has attained fame, achieved prominence within the zeitgeist, and/or become a normal, everyday part of our lives at some point over the course of the past 20 some-odd years.
2. Plug your word or phrase into an All Sites search (sorted by date) and scroll down to find the earliest on-site mention of that concept—via comment or post.
3. Post any interesting results to this thread. [more inside]

Your video games of 2021

We don't have games on Fanfare, so let's chat about them here! They don't have to be your greatest, or anything that came out this year, I'd just like to hear about what you played and what it meant to you.

Right day, wrong century

Oh man, someone printed this calendar wrong; it's actually April 1, 1921, and it turns out we're all a bunch of French Dadaists. Nothing to do for it but play a little Exquisite Corpse I guess! [more inside]

Offer of Minecraft Server for all you lovely folks

Hi there, I don't know if anyone will be interested but if you are, I have a paid up Minecraft server with 50 open slots. It would be an easy way to interact with other Mefites, if you already own the game, and hopefully a nice distraction. [more inside]

“I'll be there with Bells on! Ho ho!”

I'm playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game was just released and it's available on the Nintendo Switch. It seems like everyone is playing these days. Let's talk about our islands/towns. What fruit did you end up getting? There are five possibilities (not counting coconuts): apples, cherries, peaches, pears, and oranges. If you're up for it, let's share our Nintendo Switch Friend codes so we can visit each other's islands/towns. This is a super chill game and it makes me happy. If you have the opportunity, consider picking it up. As always, be kind to yourself and to others. Happy crafting, farming, shopping, & exploring friendos.

I have defeated the shark game

Many moons ago, the shark game was posted on the Blue. (Also, 2, 3) I had never played a clicker game before, but I played. And I played a lot and then I left it for a few months. And then I got pregnant. Being pregnant takes forever and involves a lot of waiting, so somehow early in the pregnancy I stumbled upon the idea of a pregnancy project in which I would get "lots" of everything and have everything going up by "lots per second" by the time baby game. Baby is 22 months old and I have succeeded. Thanks for nearly two years of purpose-to-my-life, Metafilter and boo_radley. [more inside]

Telephone Pictionary by mail: MetaFilter edition

This one's for all the mefites who like to send and receive snail-mail. (You know who you are!) Last month I authored a Projects post about the "correspondence edition" of Telephone Pictionary I developed. Briefly: Telephone Pictionary is a pen-and-paper party game that adds a visual (drawn) component to "telephone," that game where people sit in a circle and whisper a phrase to one another, usually corrupting the original phrase in the process. In Telephone Pictionary, players alternate between written descriptions and drawings, going back and forth until the big reveal at the end. The "correspondence version" of this is done via snail-mail, so it takes a few weeks. I am interested in facilitating correspondence games of Telephone Pictionary among mefites, and I'd like to know if folks on the site might be interested in taking part! [more inside]

Play our Mario Maker levels!

A few of us (me, naju, Navelgazer, branduno and Elementary Penguin) have been making levels in Super Mario Maker for Wii-U. We've started a blog, mefimariomaker.blogspot.com, to show them off. You don't have to follow or friend us or anything to play 'em, just enter the 16-digit ID codes into Super Mario Maker and play! (This does mean you have to own the game and a Wii-U to play 'em, sadly.) Their difficulty is all over the map. If you have the game and want to post 'em too, just send me a MeMail with your email address and I'll invite you! There is no other requirement, besides being a MeFi member, for posting your levels. It's a Blogger blog, so you'll probably end up needing a Google account.

Could we forgo Dopamine Clickers as FPPs? Pretty Please?

I'm looking for a question about housework

or chores, or cleaning - where at least one of the commentors said that s/he likes to pretend to be Cinderella (or some other fantasy character with an evil bossy nemesis), so that s/he can attack her (probably "her") work with the feeling of high moral superiority and amused martyrdomship. Does this ring any bells? I have a new question to ask about pretending as a (or pretending to be) grown up and want to reference that, because it seemed to say it better than I could. (Also, may be same thread or not, but someone went around smiting the housework - that thread too, please). I did search, but apparently I'm much better at finding obscure academic articles.

What was this game?

Maybe five years back, when Flash Friday was more of a thing, there was a link to an online game. It was somewhat like unto Connect Four: a grid (7 x 7, maybe) in which numbered circles dropped in from above. As certain numbers lined up, those circles would be removed and the remaining circles above dropped into place, which might form new patterns that led to more disappearing. If any of the vertical columns filled up to overflowing, the game was over. There were also options to modify gameplay; one I recall was to turn the whole thing ninety degrees. I enjoyed it, but seem not have favorited it, which suggests I may have seen it before I joined (summer 2008). Anyone know what I am talking about?

Name That Blue

Famous Dates in FPP History

NEVAR FORGET the Microsoft Kin!!!1!
An FPP that will live in infamy. -> Birds
Is it "Back, and to the left," or, "Back and to the left"?
Today's FPP: it is important that you wear underpants.

You get the idea -- the FPP# corresponds to the famous date, written as [MMDDYY]. What are some more famous dates' FPPs?

Bastille Day? A surprise volcano!

Looking for musical flash game

Several months ago, someone posted a flash game where you drew simple white lines on a black background. White balls hit the white lines and, depending on how hard they hit them, produced a musical note. You could adjust the rate of the balls dropping. I can't find this post.

Recollectionfilter: that game, the one with the terrorists...

A while ago (years?) there was a link posted on MeFi to a flash game where the objective was to kill terrorists by dropping bombs on them. The trick was, that when you killed terrorists you created more from the people around who took up the fight... Anyone remember it?
