talkin' rockin' poffin boffin
This is a shoutout to poffin boffin, who in the last month has made 23 posts on the general topic of Indigenous Peoples, ranging from herring fisheries to sign languages to neologisms to cuisine to high steelworkers. Some of these posts didn't get many comments, but collectively they are an admirable corpus on an important topic.

(Glang. Glangalangalangalang.) Nobody does it better. Makes me feel sad for the rest. Nobody does it quite the way you do, baby baby... darlin YOU'RE THE BEST. [more inside]
Trans* 101
A few weeks ago, tensions were rising high in a trans*-related FPP over the tendency of threads on said topic to turn into trans 101 rather than focusing on issues highlighted, especially given how it could be perceived as threatening and exhausting. Juliet Banana was apparently listening to the debate and made a special note to include links to some FAQs in today's post on the topic. I just wanted to extend my kudos and bring attention to this excellent resolution to the debate, and suggest that this should be a standard for trans* posts in the future.
HUGGGGGS
I feel the need to schmoopy. Thank you, MeFi, for being there for me during the hard times. And the less hard times, but who needs praise for sticking around when things are easy, eh? [more inside]
Thank you, all!
After the last round of holiday crapfests, I'd like to take a moment to thank mathowie, cortex, jessamyn, and restless_nomad (and, if it's still relevant, vacapinta -- for some reason I remember reading that vacapinta is not modding anymore...?) as well as pb for all the wonderful work they do keeping this place running. Complicated subject done well
I just wanted to give a shout-out to everyone who's been participating in the Autism/Aspergers/Empathy thread and say that I really appreciate the wealth of personal perspectives, good advice, and non-judgmental discussion. I made some comments early on that I realized (after posting) could be perceived as antagonistic, but the thread has been really cool, and a great eye-opener for me.
Thanks, Metafilter!
Thanks, jessamyn

Civil discourse that's actually civil
Too sweet to be sour too nice to be mean
slappy_pinchbottom asks for intergalactic hip hop. Gets some great suggestions. Revisits the thread a couple weeks later to post the resulting mix. Kudos!
Nicely done moderation on the Russian sexual harassment post.

crunchland has the most helpful user page
crunchland has the most helpful user page I've seen here. It's like the entire mefi wiki wrapped up in a single page. Thanks, crunchland.
Can a system be devised for users who've appreciated a post to click on an "I enjoyed this" button?
A lot of excellent, original posts, like this one from homunculus, get zero comments because users (I'm guessing) feel it's lame just to say "Thank you"; "Good post" or something equally trite, though sincere. My feeling is that outsiders, when they see 0 or 1 comment, erroneously judge that it reflects on the post and pass on. Which is a great pity.
Can't a simple system be devised whereby those users who've appreciated a post click on a "I enjoyed this" or "(this is good)" button, the result appearing much as the trackbacks do now?

are we living through a mefi golden age?
stavros drew some heat for his call to arms for the improvement of metafilter, but we've seen a number of truly superior links posted since the new server went online. are we living through a mefi golden age?
