Sort favorites by author?

Is there a way to sort my favorites by author, or to get a tabulation of quantity by author? [more inside]

Now we can sort, yay!

I wrote a bookmarklet to help sort posts by 'Best Answer' and number of 'Favorites'--wanna test it out for me? See external directions here [more inside]

Viva quien vence... but, still...

I'm wondering if we should add a "History" category to Ask Me? I posted this today, and was surprised to find that we don't have this category choice. I wavered between "Grab Bag" and "Society and Culture" and finally went with the latter, though my impression of that category is that it's meant to address quite different, mostly contemporary questions... and checking past questions seems to affirm that it's not a great fit, though probably the best we have. Sorting search results by number of favorites?

Pony request: We can already sort the posts and comments in search results by date or by relevance. Would it be possible (or even desirable) to sort by the number of favorites each item has? [more inside]

Sorting Popular Favorites

Could the popular favourited posts and comments be listed in chronological order instead of by number of "votes"? As is, it's difficult to single out what's new and fresh -- which would make the whole page much more useful (not that I don't love revisiting the Sketchzilla thread).

Reorder AskMe by answers

What if the most recent posts on AskMe were displayed on the front page according to how many answers they had already received in ascending order, i.e. with those having the fewest answers remaining near the top for longer than they currently do?

Comment sorting a mystery

What's going on here with how my comments are sorted?

It looks like they're being sorted by comment date DESC, except that the three latest comments are not quite right.

Small usability suggestion for the "MetaFilter comments by:" page

Small usability suggestion for the "MetaFilter comments by:" page (example).

When a user has made more than one comment in a thread, there are multiple "jump to the comment in this thread" links you can use to see them all. The weird thing is that they are storted top-to-bottom newest-to-oldest. Can you reverese sort these links, so that clicking the first link takes you to the first comment, and clicking the last link takes you to the last comment? This seems that it would more closely match the structure of the thread it's linking to.

Minor bug in "My Comments" sorting

Minor bug in "My Comments" sorting which predates the new server. When you pick "My Comments" the drop down on the newly sorted page defaults to "date", therefore you can't go back to sort by date from sort by my comments.

My Comments is not initially an option in the Sort By pull-down

Minor bug: My Comments is not initially an option in the Sort By pull-down, it only appears once any of the other sort option have been selected. IE 5.0, NT 4.0.

This is another request regarding the way threads are sorted

This is another request regarding the way threads are sorted. Its would be a little more tricky than the sorts implemented thus far, but I would guess its definately possible (I'm consdering doing this on my site). I really like this idea, but I don't recall seeing it in use anywhere before. Anyway, it goes something like this:

1) THREAD SORTING
a. new threads (to each particular visitor) appear at the top of page, with slightly different background color to differentiate them from the rest
b. old threads with new comments follow (posts with the most new comments first, or something like this)
c. last comes the threads with no new comments since last visit, displayed in the order they were actually posted.

Just a little something I was thinking about. It seems to me like it would be a nice way to sort out threads. Would anybody agree with me on this one? Has anybody seen something similar implemented on other sites?

Ways to limit the front page

Um, I never remember having heard any thoughts on either of the following two (three) ideas: so I'll repost them en banc:

IWBNI: you could limit the front page in three ways:
1) Threads that I have not read yet
2) Threads that I have read, but not posted on, with comments newer than my last view
3) Threads I have posted on, with comments newer than my last post.

I think those three subsets exhaust the set, no?

It wopuld seem to me that that is all timestamps in cookies, but I don't speak CF...

New comments by category

Matt--

As near as I can tell, the sort-to-top on the Metatalk front is by new threads, not new comments. Which is fine. However, I would like some kind of flag to know if a category (such as "weblog grab bag) has new comments since the last time I was here. It wouldn't have to be detailed. I'm thinking along the lines of a "new comments" column next to each category on the front page, with a yes/no value.

Or whatever, you're the designer I'm the one who thought black and neon green was a good color scheme.
