Don't tell me about my own life

The specific is not the universal, and when an article is posted about the specific experiences of a specific group, especially if it's about traumatic experiences, it is really alienating to have people come in and try to zoom out so they can shoehorn it into their favorite construct of the moment. It blots out the ability of members of the group in question to discuss their reactions if there's a constant need for "Actually it's more complicated than that." [more inside]

#WomensMarch Discussion / Support thread

The last #WomensMarch MetaTalk thread has closed; I would like one open to discuss what's happening, and if anyone needs to throw out a question.

This post has me thinking about whether letting kids assume everyone is straight is good, or bad.

From This post, I feel that the advice to say nothing is everyone else trying to tell me to stay in the closet where I 'belong'. The other advice has been really helpful, so I'm trying to decide if I agree or not. [more inside]

1956

While not disagreeing that it was esentially a stunt, I thought this post by orthogonality was rather good, with the lack of context, the reaction to the material out of context and discovery of that context being features rather than bugs.

Unreal

The homophobia being expressed in this thread is sad and disturbing.

seething homophobia. seething.

In the recent thread on the pitfalls of writing realistic LGBT characters, I stated how I didn't feel the "predatory gay man" trope was completely out of line given how I had encountered such people in real life. Great nastiness ensued. [more inside]

It isn't really that clever...

Gaymover tag? Really? <sarcasm>I mean... that's so gay!</sarcasm> In all seriousness, can we maybe keep the casual homophobia to a minimum? Or if I'm missing the joke, please let me know.

diversity of opinion here on PinkoFilter

"Why can't homosexuals take responsibility for their role in the propagation of HIV infections? It was their culture and practices that facilitated HIV infection and tipped the balance to epidemic. Even before this male homosexuals known for their association with transmission of disease".

"Queens are pathetic in old age as their protestations about the faults of others fail to hide their wrinkles"

Jesus you people* are hateful, and smug too.
*homoleftists

I know that we need more diversity of opinion here on PinkoFilter, but where's the limit (if there is one)? (more inside)
