Around the World in 30 days ....

Meetups planned with over 30 days advance might need a little more time in the grey.

Deleted Thread

WCityMike got me thinking with his recent thread. I like deleted thread. Frankly I think its uniqueness constitutes BOTW. So...would it violate the rules to do a blue post about it? (AFAIK no one has yet)

Image macros

So now Metafilter is the site to go to when in need of full-on beastiality.

YouTubeFi?

Should there maybe be a special place within MetaFilter Network for YouTube and Google Video links (and the like)? I know that there's other video linky sites out there, but this is MetaFilter, and I like people's taste better here.

Some people really don't seem to care for video posts, and grump about how common they're becoming, but sometimes they're good. I doubt there will be a decline in the amount of video and stuff that will be available for discovering and linking to. Maybe we should get used to it, but keep the other best-o-the-web stuff separate, or distinct in some way.

There's a link with an entire article posted - I don't think this falls under "Fair Use"

The link associated with this post is not close to being "fair use".

Let's argue in threads instead of in MetaTalk

Perhaps it's time to reconsider using MetaTalk to denounce single comments and only slightly contentious single posts. [More inside.]

Followup material goes where now?

Is MetaTalk a good place to point out that the verdict described in this thread was just overturned?

I often find follow-up material like this long after the original thread is gone. It doesn't seem worth a whole new FPP, but I do think that people who read the original post would want to know. FollowupFilterSidebar?

Threadratings for Metafilter?

With all the huff and puff about quality, how about a facility in the blue for viewers of threads to rate them? This would have the benefits of indicating examples of quality (to newbies, oldbies with bad memories, etc..) and perhaps the possibility of searching for only threads rated over 7.0 or something. Would MetaFilter be better off without an etiquette/policy section in the gray?

The Pollo Campero discussion is a nice example of members drowning out derailing attempts without resorting to MetaTalk (at least until I fucked it up by bringing it here). Would MetaFilter be better off without an etiquette/policy section in the gray?

We need posting guidelines for MeTa ALSO?

Considering the increasing amount of recent MetaTalk posts that have been deleted or generally derided, perhaps the time has come to propose that some Posting Guidelines, similar to those which already and profitably exist for MetaFilter, could be useful here too. Following the same dichotomy ("What makes a good thread post to MeTa?"/What makes a bad post to MeTa?"), what essential, make-or-break, very general guidelines (in the "minimum of hard rules" spirit of this community) would users suggest?

Is a Single Product Link Okay?

So a single product link (that's been linked before) is okay now? Or is it only because its "benbrown"? Curious.

Spelling Errors on Front Page Look Bad

The front page represents us to the world. If we're going to take the trouble to post to it, can we doublecheck our spelling?

What goes in MetaTalk? What goes in MetaFilter?

">More and more, I'm seeing posts here in MetaTalk that really should be in MetaFilter proper. I thought MetaTalk was supposed to be for meta-discussions about MetaFilter that would be distracting from the main site. Was I wrong? [ more inside ]

Removing Where's Dick Post

Uggh... How will this foster a discussion any different than the other "Where's Dick" threads we have had without having any linked supporting evidence.

appropriateness of posts on illness of minor celebrities?

Can I get a witness?

Even if you think "RIP" posts for obscure celebrities are appropriate, do we really need "X is sick", "X is really sick" and "X is dead" posts?

Why Was Cut Off My Feet Removed?

The thread about Cut Off My Feet was removed. What the reasoning behind its being pulled?

(I thought the was rather freakish and sick at first, but then I realized as I looked around the site that the man is cutting off his feet because his insurance comany won't pay for an amputation and new prosthetics. Perhaps poor marketing and communication of his message, but a powerful one, still.)
