Metatalktail Hour: Fine Print
Happy weekend everyone, I hope you are well! For this metalktail hour topic, I'd like to ask what you are reading, or what you last read, or what you are looking forward to reading ... and also, actually, um, are you reading? Or has the combination of the always-on instant news cycle, ballooning world crises, and overbearing social media interrupted, slowed, or stymied your flow? Or intensified it? [more inside]
Someone else should do this
How about a way to offer up a suggestion for a FPP that they themselves don't feel capable of doing, like, "Hey y'know what would be a great FPP? Something about how there's all these different 'colors' of noise; white noise, pink noise, brown noise, now there's green noise, and they're all different and special but I am not a noise scientist and in fact am pretty stupid when it comes to numbers and science so maybe someone else can make a post about it so I can enjoy it."
Thank you.
What's one change to Metafilter that you'd like to see made, or tried?
What is something that you wish worked differently, and how would it work?

Obviously we all love Metafilter or we wouldn't be here posting and reading day after day... But, if there was one thing you could change/modify about your Metafilter experience, what would it be?

If you don't like the post, at least tell me why.
What? Already. What are you people on about?
Can you be a more explicit in your sugestions for improving my post than just telling me it sucks? A hint, perhaps, to the nature of the suck, rather than just its degree?

I thought these were some great ideas from duck on how to turn a random interesting thought into a good FPP. (The now-infamous 'mushroom' FPP itself is discussed elsewhere)

it might be good policy
Once again, I found myself trying to follow a link to the New York Times with a username and password I'd forgotten. I wondered if it might be good policy for people to post news.google.com searches to these links instead. For example, the recent link ...

Anyone know of any good blogs?
Anyone know of any good blogs? I'm an on/off reader of weblogs and find it difficult to be kept interested by any for more than a couple of months. I realise that bloggers have a lot to say, in the main they are articulate and opinionated, but not many seem to actually do anything with their lives.
I find that my interest in a weblog will soon wane if all that it consists of are links and opinions of books/movies/music. Are there any bloggers out there who have out-of-the-ordinary lives? Active people? Travelling people? Please let me know.
And before you comment I am in the process of setting up my own blog in my own attempt to fill a gap.

Should we have a separate page for politics?
Would MetaFilter be improved by moving political discussions to their own community separate from the main page? I love politics, but I think these kinds of links breed like rabbits, and I sometimes wonder if I am contributing to the Free Republicazation of this site.
I really don't want to check MF one day and find a link to Mahir
Almost without exception, all the stuff I've seen posted here in the last week is stuff that has either been posted here before or has been posted everywhere else first. I have a small suggestion to help alleviate this situation: a disclaimer on the post page discouraging people to post links culled from other weblogs. That way, there will be more first-run links. I really don't want to check MF one day and find a link to Mahir. I really don't.
How should this look?
Since the nature of posts and discussion is different here, does anyone think the display should be different than MetaFilter's index page? Instead of time-based (by date) listing of topics, I'm wondering if this area should take on a UBB-style of display (see the glassdog boards as a prime example of these), where there are subject areas, and discussion threads below that. That way, there could be a permanent area for discussion of bugs, another thread permanently dedicated to feature requests, etc., let me know what you think because it could easily be done here.
