Intra-filter trackbacks

For the big pile of stuff: How about a wikipedia-style "Mefi posts that link to this post" box on the side of each thread (that has been linked back to)? So when someone links back to a post, that old post now links forward to the new thread. Especially useful if you search and find an older thread, and would like also to read the subsequent threads which say "previously discussed on MetaFilter..." Ideally, it would pick up on comments as well as posts that link to a specific thread (not to a specific comment in the thread, though).

Would it be possible to get trackbacks turned back on?

Would it be possible to get trackbacks turned back on at some point? Also, a small bug: existing trackbacks have disappeared. I'm not sure whether that happened when trackbacks were initially disabled or when the comment-closing feature was added, but they're all gone.

Any chance of getting trackbacks turned back on?

Any chance of getting trackbacks turned back on, Matt? I really liked the way I could follow them out into the bloggy cloud of commentary, which often included longer essays and pictures of kittens and stuff.

Trackback has been disabled from the site

FYI: Trackback has been disabled from the site until I get some time next week to put some fixes in to block certain people from tweaking with it.

Is it possible to disallow embedded media in trackbacks?

Is it possible to disallow embedded media in trackbacks? Say for instance the song that automatically starts playing when you open this thread.

trackback to tubgirl

Uh, the first trackback item in this post actually goes to a really horrible unpleasant image (tubgirl). Like, don't click on it.

Weird trackbacks?

Is there a reason every thread since this one has a trackback about the Dalai Lama and Bush?

Would I be a spammer?

How about this: I run a newsbot (which shall remain unlinked) that parses MeFi regularly, looking for news articles. I am wondering: would it be kosher with y'all (Matt most importantly) if the bot pinged back MeFi with added information about any links that it found (using the existing trackback infrastructure)? Useful value-add or trackback spam? [more inside]

Weird TB ping problem

Ping ping ping! Weird TB ping problem, couldn't find anyone else having the same problem here in MetaTalk. I tried Trackbacking the thread (I linked to it in my post, and MT (yes, version 2.51) automatically found the TB URL) instead of cut and pasting the URL in the "URLs to Ping" post area, or using the MT bookmarklet.

Found a typo, deleted the MeFi TB URL in the "URLs to Ping" area when I re-saved, and it repinged Metafilter. Also strange: when I click on Previously Sent Pings in MT on the entry, it doesn't list that any were successfully sent. Haven't had this problem Trackbacking any other blogs, because when I send a ping to other sites, it appears to get sent "successfully," and no longer appears in the "URLs to Ping" area, it moves to the 'Previously Sent Pings" locale. Anyone else? I think the shuttle thread had this problem, too.
